The last update actually hit some of the missing road and streets in my area, a first. Did 2 times so far.

I took advantage of the $99 promotion and last week applied the 2018 update to my 2017 TLX. A new interstate highway interchange was opened near our community in 2016. We use it often, so looked forward to the update. Was disappointed that it's not in the 2018 map I just installed. One would think 2 years (plus the planning stages) would give the map makers enough time to add an interstate highway interchange! My wife's Garmin included this interchange almost as soon as it opened.

It doesn't surprise me that an interchange opened in 2016 isn't in the 2018 update. Consider that the 2018 update started selling in the fall of 2017, and takes what's probably a considerable lead time for the publisher to update the digital map base which is likely done only once a year, and then produce the dvds.

the technology is there for them to change the way we update and certainly the frequency. Acura in this sense is EMBRRASSINGLY behind the times! At the price point by which they impose upon us, its usefulness (in a world we use cell phones) its almost zero. WTF. 150 bux for crap. Discount crap and sell it for 99. Maybe if enough of us got together and emailed customer service they will hear our cry. Trust me, if they received 100 or more emails about the SAME THING, someone is bound to respond. SO UPSETTING.

I’m new here and recently bought the 2018 purple discs for my ‘12 TL. This amongst other things has been super frustrating and Acura ( CS & dealership) has been no help. Do you mind telling me the difference between the full power and background upgrades? Why are there 2 different types? Instead of answering these questions, the dealership wants to charge $130. I declined.

I just read that Navteq (sp?) only does the actual road mapping every 5 years! The POI is done sooner. I have a 2014 RDX and only get these every 5 years or so. I also understand that these discs come out almost a year early, which means the data for 2019 is actually only a 2018 disc!
So... I may wait until 2020 before I update my 2014.
BTW, these updated dvds are good IF you travel out of state or do a lot of trips. Otherwise I wouldn't bother updating!

I have a question on installing the navigation update disc: The instructions say to leave the engine running for 2 - 6 hours - depending on which part of the update you want to install - to avoid draining the battery! Why couldn't a guy just turn the key to ON and attach a trickle charger to the battery?

That's exactly what I did when I updated my TLX navigation a few months ago. Worked like a charm.
