The yearly routine... $99 plus $24 for traffic. Have to watch out though... they tried to bundle traffic and weather for $49. I never did like the weather option... always was popping up alerts for something happening 100 miles away.

This might be greedy of me, however; I just bought my 07 TL-S and was interested in XM. If I've never used XM before and wouldn't have an account on record, how should I go about getting the discount? I can't use "I paid less last year" or "I'm not willing to renew for that price" arguements. Should I just say I'm interested but I'm not willing to pay $200+/yr?

You should be able to get 3 months for free, either online or telephone, when you get a new car. Then you can haggle with them once the 3 months is over.

See if this link works at the xm website, There is information about pre owned cars getting 3 mo trial. Once its over, you can choose to discontinue. They will send you mailers to continue service with discounts to try and keep you. But you have to give it time after you discontinue. Could be a month or so before you get good deal to renew. They will send out the regular fee during your 3 mo period cuz they hope you are not aware of these discount programs.

Another crazy simple renewal...much different than it used to be. "Chris" :-) asked if any service issues other than price and when I said no he offered up 5 mo/$25 + fees/taxes which I took as I am considering selling the car. 2 very positive renewals in a row.

I haven't subscribed in years, yet they still send me offers and it's 5 mo for $25. I use my phone instead.

Calling them every 5 months is a pain, but for less than $90 a year, it's still worth it to me, as radio reception out here in the sticks sucks (unless you like country music). Since I almost never turn my smartphone on, Pandora, etc. isn't a viable option, though that is the threat I always use to beat them down until they finally offer me the 5 month deal. Someday, they may call my bluff and actually cancel the service, but I'm confident my mailbox would soon be overflowing with progressively cheaper discounted re-up pitches.

They aren't doing you any favors. XM is currently running a free two week period for all radios. They do this a couple of times a year.

Yeah SIRIUS most likely will never forget about you once your in their system. I bought a new honda about 5 years ago and they still hound me today. I have never said yes to any of their offers. I tried their traffic during the 3 month intro period and it kinda sucked! WAZE is much better.

Seems my experience was unique; I cancelled a few years back, and haven't heard a peep from them.

The first thing he listed was the XM Select (which is what I have) at $99 per year. This was much less than the $162/year cost for XM Select shown on their website and I am not sure what other promotions he had to offer but I stopped him and accepted this one since it is what I am willing to pay. My fallback would have been to step down to the XM Mostly Music package and I assume the guy would have also suggested this had I rejected his $99 offer for XM Select.

I told him I also had the Traffic package and asked if he could add that. In the past the same person was able to do both but I guess things changed since he said he only handled the music packages. He passed me along to another person who said the Traffic would be $3.99 a month. Again this was okay for me. So total of everything came out to $165.62 which is essentially what I paid last year.

I assume a good haggler could probably do better but basically this seemed okay for me.

It is just a damn nuisance having to go through this nonsense every year since they are always agreeable to making a deal.
Like clockwork time has come up again to go through the dumb renewal dance. I had to remind myself what I was able to negotiate from last year (above) and will steel myself to make the call to again go through this distasteful nonsense.

Try this XM website: siriusxm.com/bestoffer101
Enter your Radio ID and Acct #. See what offer you can get. This is the best site to use if your radio is inactive. If your radio is active, you will not get any good offers. At least the last time I checked. Friend of mine received a post card from XM with a excellent offer which was good till 12/31/17. The offer was $99 for 3 yrs or $149 for 5 yrs. The problem was he no longer owned his Ford F150. That radio was inactive for about 4 yrs.

Just tried that. Since my radio/account is still active, I get the "offer" to renew for $250 for what I got last year for $165. These guys seem to have the same mentality as TV cable providers--keep increasing the subscriptions even as customers are bailing out.

Made the call and this was the easiest yet, although having to go through this process gets more and more absurd. Called the 866-635-5027 number listed at the website. Eventually was connected to an actual person somewhere in the world and I just cut to the chase saying I received my renewal ($250.88 for XM Select Audio plus NavTraffic) and unless I could renew for the same or less than last year ($165.62) I would cancel. Got NO haggle as the guy quickly said he would renew the Select Audio for $99 and could add the NavTraffic for another $24. So the total for the next year comes to $136.70 which includes taxes which is actually less than last year. I was surprised and pleased.

Today I called 866-635-2349 to see if there were any promos available so I could add/reactivate my daughter's car to my account. Spoke with "Anna" and she asked if I had received any promos. I told her I didn't currently have and but have received them in the past. She looked over my account and then put me on hold to check for promos. She came back and said that promos run from time to time but there weren't any currently available. I asked what that meant and she said she could only offer me $20.44 a month rate. I said that is more than double what I paid when I activated two other radios in October. She said that was all she could do.
I hung up and called 888-601-6302. I spoke with Chris who looked at my account and said he could reactivate the third radio for the same rate as my other two radios.......$112.76 all in. Done in two mins flat.

Lol! I'm not surprised. A few years back I called to renew the subscription on my former car, a '10 TSX V6. They wouldn't give me a promo price so I cancelled. One day soon after I called back and the person I reached was eager to offer me a promo price. So I renewed. Crazy.

It's been over two years since I subscribed and I still get offers.

It's nuts. I literally hung up and then immediately dialed the 2nd number and got the deal.

Just renewed again for another year. Called and requested cancellation of service. They asked why. I explained that my promo pricing had expired and I wasn't willing to pay the current rate. They immediately offered me the exact same deal as last year. I accepted. I'm good for another year now. Same old routine, year after year.

They won’t give ME a whole year discount deal without a credit card # (they send a paper invoice & I send them a check). Best I can get is 5 months. Still, likely better that than trying to get a full price auto-charge refunded.

Interesting. I've been a subscriber for 10 years now and have never given them a credit card number. I always pay from the paper invoice. Never had an issue with it.

Did it take a lot of arm-twisting to get that ‘one year’ deal? Do you purchase a very expensive package (traffic/weather/every station, etc.) that might make them more accommodating/fearful re: customer loss? I may have to try a ‘hardball-attitude’ next time renewal is due, and actually let them cancel temporarily.

No arm twisting necessary. I called and told them I wished to cancel my subscription. She said okay and pretended to be cancelling it. Within 10 seconds, she said she'd like to ask me why I was cancelling before she processed the cancelation order. I simply stated that my promo period was up and I wasn't willing to renew at the current rate. She immediately offered the same one year deal that I had the previous year. I accepted and she processed the next year at the promotional rate. I don't subscribe to the premium channels. I believe what I get is XM Select and I do add NavTraffic/NavWeather. It's worked like this for several years now. As far as cancelling goes though, I'm not bluffing with them. I will not renew at the full retail rate. If they hadn't offered me the promotional rate, I most certainly would have cancelled. The whole call lasted 9 minutes.

yeah, they almost know exactly what you are calling for...
that was the easiest it's ever been...
okay, if i can't get last year's same rate, please cancel.
oh love you long time, long time customer...same price as last year, we'll refund you.

Thanks, doll.

I just talked to them last week, 99 was a low as they would go. SO LONG XM. Wont be back unless the price is WAY less or, preferably, they remove some channels and allocate some bandwidth to improve sound quality.

I keep threatening them with a switch to ‘Pandora’, but my experience with their TiVo included software has not been all that encouraging. No matter how often I skip over 2nd rate bands/recordings, they keep coming up. Must be some kind of ‘payola’ scheme. No matter what artist channels you select, inferior clone bands always predominate eventually. You would think that would not occur until all available selections by that particular artist had repeated (?).

Thanks for letting us know.

No problem.

Guess it depends on what stations you are listening to. The 4 or 5 I listen to don't play much in the way of commercials.

I usually get a letter telling me about these promotions, but not this time. They were also asking to confirm my email address which I didn't do. So maybe after 4 years they are finally giving up on getting me back. I sure hope so.

Just got the annual renewal notice by mail (I won't give them the leverage of having my CC number), and it's 2X the amount I've been paying for the last several years. Guess I'll have to do the dance again over the phone tomorrow. What's the best number to call these days to get this done?
