Renew XM Radio for $77 or less for 12 months, Part 6

I have 3 subscriptions to XM. As I posted earlier, I got an outrageous bill for $201.84/ yr. with Best of Sirius for my TL. I called to cancel in August, they were ok with it. I called today to make sure they did not charge my card next week, they had no record of the cancellation. They sent me to the department that handles it. I told the guy the price is too high and I think the royalty fee is a back door rate increase. He accomidated my cancellation. No counter offer. I will let it expire and see if they come back. If they have the power to lower a subscriber who has one radio, they treat a 3 subscription owner as nothing special. My current bill for all three is $450, and I will cancel each one as they come up.

just got off the phone with the cancellation dept... offered me the 77 after a long song and dance about how they cant give it to me again... fine... so i told them i guess we have to part our ways... and then he goes ... oh it looks like i can give you the deal but need to add the royalty blah blah another 11 and change... so the grand total at 88/year... said hmmm..no thanks. and then he goes we still have one more plan 19.99 for 5 months with some royalty fee added with no tax so we are looking at 23.05... i said uh okay for 5 months 23.05 is okay. we shall see what the price is five months from now.

Hi All,
I just called to renew my XM service and got the $77 yearly rate. All I did was call in, let the guy give me his spiel about whatever rates were available, and then I told him I was aware of a $77 rate and he gave it to me without hesitation. Added weather and NavTraffic for an additional $20 a quarter.

Thanks to all
Just renewed my XM for the $77 a year rate. Had to pay the $11.78 royalty fee. Didn't argue since I got no argument at all when I asked about the $77 rate. Better that $142.95 for a year.
I must have got a cool lady. She did a one-time charge to my card instead of auto-renewal. That way they'll invoice me and I'll have to try again next year for promo if I want to keep XM.

Free for 4 months??
My $77 annual fee XM subscription expired earlier this month.
I received a paper bill in the mail for $15/mo., so I called in to cancel and was offered std rate and then a reduced rate of $115/year.
Following a long wait on hold (10 minutes??) for customer retention, the XM rep responded by canceling the bill, giving me an additional 3 mos. free, and told me to call back before Jan. 23, 2010 to see what promos were in effect then.
Hope I remember to call back then, and that XM still has a $77 or less annual subscription deal.

Just got my annual renew letter. Offered a "great" deal at 38.55 per quarter plus some sort of music royalty nonsense.
I called the # on the letter, first spoke with the guy on the phone, could offer me the $77/yr deal, said it was no longer available. Threaten to quit - he didn't care. I asked to speak with the supervisor. The supervisor said I had the $77/yr deal last year and year before that and i was only supposed to get it for one year. I asked if I could get it again, or I will quit. She didn’t care, said it’s not available.
At this point I was getting bummed out, oh well I thought, living in Boston, who care about XM. I asked her to have it disconnected. This seemed to be the magic word. She transferred me to the "disconnect" department, which, btw, was almost instant, unlike the previous hold time of 10 minutes, I didn’t even have the chance to put the phone on speaker, but I digress.
THE disconnect woman asked me why I was to disconnect, I told her that i want the $77 deal. She said yes, I can offer that to you one year.
She verified my CC # and I was done.
While I had her on the phone, I asked her if I could add my other car, that has Sirius , to the same account. She said that next year when XM and Sirius are truly merged this might be possible.
So, one more year of XM for $77.00, suite

Batman: as has been stated many times in this thread, if you don't want to follow the instructions and the script, you are on your own.
There is no "deal" for $77. The normal CSRs don't know anything about this "salvage a lost customer" Hail Mary tactic. It is not offered to the public anywhere.
The "retention agents" that you will get connected to if you follow the SCRIPT will, as a last resort, approve the price. They have a script in their computers and it only works if you give the answers that are plugged into their software. That's why we provide a script for you so that you touch all the bases.
If we are careless and act like they owe us this "deal", we could kill it for everyone. All we need to do is alert them that the cat's out of the bag on a popular website and they are losing hundreds of thousands of dollars, and they may pull the plug.
So, guys... take the time to read the original post and the first page AT LEAST and follow the instructions for best results and to keep this thing alive.
Thanks.
Dave

I just got an 07 TL Type s. I have had the car for a few months and i just decided to call XM and there was no question they set it right up. I paid 77 with an 11 dollar music royalty fee for a year subscription. This thread is great hope it keeps working in the future.

trick or treat
Don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but as you can see from my previous post, I got 5 months for $23.40. Or so I thought.
Not long after I renewed, I got an email from XM saying that the charge didn't go through on my credit card and they wanted me to pay by some other means. I didn't look at my cc account on line because my cc holder has been refusing to automatically renew subscriptions to other services for me (this is actually a good thing, because most things I haven't wanted to renew).
So, to continue service, I paid XM using an e-check from my checking account. Turns out I paid twice - my cc holder did pay XM for my subscription when in fact they said it didn't. I discovered this the other day when I got my cc bill.
I don't think it will be worth it to call XM for a refund of $23.40 because I think my time is worth more than that. I'm posting this largely as a heads up to other subscribers that this may possibly happen to you.

Called, waited on hold for 10mins.
"Here's what is said - I would like to cancel the 6months promo that I got before it turns into a ridiculous monthly rate. "
She said - Sure, but we can offer you a 5month for 23 bux deal.
I said - do i have to call back in 5months and deal with this mess again?
She said - Yes
I said - Pass I would like to cancel.
She said - How about we add 3 months of service, and after the 3months is over the 5months bill will come for 23.xx
I said - Wow you guys are relentless aren't you? She laughs.. and I ask: Do I have to call again after 8 months and wait on hold and cancel? She said yes.
She said - we do have a 77.00 plan and it's good for a year.
I said - 77.00 no tax no nothing?
She said - yes 77.00 no other fees
I said - Using my mathematical calculations, I think the 8months for 23.xx is a better deal. I will go with that.
She said - hold, blah blah blah you are being recorded.
I agree and Now I'm good till 9/3/2010

I'm nearing the end of my 3rd year @ $77 and will be up for renewal in January. I'm thinking of adding a Skydock with iPhone in my wife's non-sat-ready 2001 MDX as a 2nd receiver.
Can I qualify for $77 (or $20/5 months or anything better than a retail subscription) for that 2nd receiver?
Any opinions on Skydock? I want some of the channels that aren't available with the iPhone XM app.

Worked like a charm! Did not even have xm before and they signed me up for $77 yr. She did say she could not do a one time pay and had to set up auto renew, so I will call in one year to cancel and see what happens. Thanks for the tip!!!!

XM Radio $77/year still works with added $11.78
HI Just called XM radio. I used the script for the $77.00 year. It worked. He set it up then said there is also an $11.78 once a year fee for music royalties, that they add on to each subscription bringing my year subscription total to $88.78. This is also listed in fine print at the bottom of a flyer I just recieved...which states "as of July 29, 2009 ....new and renewing subscription packages that include music channels will be charged our U.S. music royalty fee per paid month of your plan term. See website for details" Anyone else run into this fee when renewing??

Thanks AcuraZine
Not 5 minutes ago, I called the 877-228-9058 and told the girl I did not want it to auto renew next week because of the cost. She IMMEDIATELY asked if I would take it for 77 and royalty of 11.78.
Could not have been easier.

I also called today (my three month free trials ends this week) and spoke with a lady; she offered a $350 for 3 years, $77 for one year and $19.95 for 5 month plan. I went with the $77 per year plus $11.78 music royalty fee. I also opted to get an invoice so it won't automatically charge my credit card.
Thanks to those with the good information.

I was lazy and stupidly let my subscription roll over into the automatic renewal plan of about $43 per quater. I finally got off my butt, called in and was put on hold for the cancellation department. After a short wait I spoke with a very pleasant woman, in Iowa, who signed me up for the remainder of my $43 quarter with 5 additional months added on for free. After that my plan rolls over automatically to the $77/year deal with no performer's fee.
That was easy... Thanks ACURAZINE!

I just got 77 for a year with XM traffic. My traffic is really shotty where I am at school in Massachusetts so they said that they will wave the traffic for a year.
I initially called to cancel saying that I will never pay full price for commercials and crappy traffic reporting. I really was going to cancel but they offered me the deal I mentioned above and I guess I can't pass up good deals so I took it.

Where is this so-called "script" that several have mentioned? I've looked and haven't found it. Aside for the word "cancel" what more is there to it? Thanks!!

Got it again, no script $88 ($11 whatever fee)....
Just say you want to cancel... be *nice* to everyone you talk too. The 1st person I talked to was an ass. The cancel department was a pleasure to talk too.
I just said I would continue service if they could provide the same pricing. Otherwise it didn't interest me.
Just be sure you call BEFORE you subscription expires to renew; otherwise you default to regular price the day the 1yr expires. And you'll get billed at the regular rate until you call in...

2010 TSX 5AT PWP
I called XM a few months ago and got 77 + 11 deal on radio #1.
My new TSX is just about 3 months old and the xm trial is about to end.
I called to inquire about how much it would be to add another radio to my account. I was told the cheapest would be $109.57.
I told the CS agent that I would just open another account for radio #2 at a cheaper rate (didn't go into details with him).
Is this the best option? Anyone else accomplish this in another way?
Thanks

I just called in advance of my upcoming automatic renewal at some ridiculous amount and told them "no". Just go ahead and "CANCEL" the account. They transferred me to someone else (customer retention dept most likely) to whom I also said I'd like to cancel. The fellow said how about 5 months for $20? I said no, bucause I'm going to have to call back in 5 monthe and go throught this again, right?" He said yes. Then he asked me if I would consider a 1 year plan for $77 a year? I then specifically asked, "$77 total with no fees" and he said "yes, $77, the performance fees are included in that price". The only thing is the $77 is a 1 time billing, you don't pay monthly or quarterly. It's a $77 one time payment. Just be sure you set up a calender reminder for yourself so you don't get auto-renewed in another year. This is my second year with the "deal" and now we have 2 radios subscribed, $77 each.
You cannot add a second radio to the first $77 account, but you can get a 2nd (or 3rd or whatever) $77 account. Just tell the customer retention person that you have another radio that you also want to cancel and they will make you the same offer for it as well.

They will do the $77 deal without the royalty fee if you are persistent (or get the right agent).

$77.00 only (no royalty fee)
Be sure to check your credit card about 5~10 days after you get "the deal" - - I did and discovered that even though the rep said the preformance royalty fee would not be charged, it in fact was.
I called back and asked for an explanation of the charges. The first rep said the performancy royalty was "automatic" and "required". So once more I told themI want to CANCEL my account.
They transferred me back to the "winback" group and I explained the problem. I also told them I felt that I had been lied to. I was not happy. This new rep (Betty) said that their computers automatically add-on the performance royalty fee but she could and would remove it. She said I should see the credit appear on my CC in about 5 business days.
I guess we'll see....

Sweet deal!
Forgot that my XM subscription was up this week. Just checked my credit card statement and saw the charge of $68.48. Called to cancel. I was asked why I wanted to cancel, just told the rep it was too expensive.
She offered the service for $77 for the year right off the bat. She then asked if I wanted the traffic service. I asked her how much that was, and she told me the price (I already knew it was $47.88). Then she said she would look at waving the traffic nav fees for the year. Sure enough she got back on the phone and just charged my credit card the remaining balance of $8.52. Sweet!

Worked again (2nd year)!! Thanks Acurazine!
Called the 1-877-228-9058 number
Spoke to the first rep on the phone; said I would like to cancel.
He transferred me to the cancelation department
Next rep asked me why I wanted to cancel
Said the price is simply too expensive on my renewal notice I received
The rep immediately offered me the $77/yr deal with no fees again
I accepted
Case closed for another year!
