Radar detector hardwire install (pics)
Hi everyone
I installed the invisicord into my rear view mirror plug awhile back but wanted to wait a week or so to make sure everything worked before posting my review. It has worked flawlessly. Super super easy to install, literally just shoving the two prongs into the correct spots on the back of the plug. It was a little loose so I zip tied the cord near the plug to the rear view mirror cord. I moved the detector closer to the mirror so I can still see the display, but it is basically hidden from outside view. I've seen a few posts where people were debating whether or not to go with this, I'm really glad that I did! After moving the detector closer, the cord looks almost hidden as well. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...0e4a14811.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...dc321e8ea.jpeg It's now right next to the right side of the rear view mirror, which moves the cord mostly out of view. |
I'll snap a new picture of it in its closer location and post that as well later today.
For those of you that are interested, I have the Beltronics RX65 Pro. This has been a great detector, giving alerts as far as 2 miles away. I used to drive basically the full length of the Jersey Turnpike going back and forth to college during breaks and this baby saved me countless times. Has paid for itself many times over. I will upgrade to the Valentine One in the future, but this has been an all star performer for me over the past few years. |
:woot:
I didn't use invisicord with my V1 install, i just ran a phone line all the way down to the fuse box along the A Pillar. on the V1, you'll love it.. I guarantee it https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...748e7256c9.jpg |
I had the hardwire kit for the detector with the mute button from my RSX. I hid that in the roof liner of the TL, ran it down the A pillar to the fuse box, found the fuse I wanted to use, but couldn't locate a ground. Since I wasnt too familiar with the car yet I didnt feel comfortable ripping stuff apart like I did in my RSX. I saw a few bolts that looked like I could use potentially, but then I saw a post on here for the invisicord.
For me that was a much easier and quicker option. As dumb as it sounds, after getting so used to the mute button within easy reach, it is pretty annoying to reach up to the actual detector to mute it. Moving it closer to the mirror made it much easier though. I may explore a different hardwire option if/when I upgrade to the V1, but for $10 for the invisicord, this works perfectly for me at the moment. Any pics of your V1 and where its located? |
For my V1 I tapped into the power wire for the moon-roof and grounded to the body.

From the visor, I run the power cord, through the A-pillar, down to the fuse box.
As a safety measure, an extra fuse is used to power up the radar detector. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...e0fc8642dd.jpg |
^^^ did the same on two 3G TLs.

Yes, I soldered the ground wire to a metal-ring terminal, and slipped the terminal under the nearest bolt attaching to the car's chassis ground. |

Here is my Passport 9500ix radar detector direct wire install. Let me know if you want info on how this was done it was pretty easy, i used the same fuse tap as the pic above and ran the cord up the A pillar. TL uses low profile mini fuse tap (i think that is the right term) anyway it isn't something that most basic auto part stores have in stock so along with everything else i buy i picked up one off amazon. see the link below for the one i bought which i liked bc it already came with fuses. |

It's been dark in the mornings now, and I've been working until it's dark at night. Managed to snap a quick pick of my view of the detector leaving the gym this AM stuck in city traffic.

Thanks mods for moving it to the correct area, I'm still getting familiar with the site rules. My fault.

Which fuses did you use for the radar detector? I'm trying to install a dash cam and I need a fuse that has constant power and one that shuts off with the ignition..

I used Accessory (#18) which is only on when the car is on. For constant power, I would give Accessory, Key, Lock (#17) or Driver's Side Door Lock (#25) a try.
