Ported is better but 2 is overkill specially if you dont upgrade all the rest of the speakers. 1 will be enough

Ported isnt always whats better, depends on what the manufacturer's reqs are and space available to fill those requirements. dont rule out AP Sub enclosures as you can get big sound out of very small space.

google it.

Depends on the subs, the power, and the airspace. If you're asking this question, you should probably be going to a professional shop and having them design something for you.

There is a vendor on here that makes an excellent single 10 or 12 inch box that fits in the drivers side trunk well and looks like factory. Box is going to cost you about ~$400 shipped. That trunk doesn't need more than a single 12 to thump.

Generally ported requires a larger box, so if you still want to use your trunk sealed may be your best option.

How about a ported single 10". I'm thinking a 10" in one of Uncald's enclosures

I have a punchy JL 10 in there on a cheap pioneer 1000watt D block and it's extra whoomp, but nothing like the 12. Now, I'm not in one of his boxes currently though. If you contact him and tell him what sub you are using, he'll tailor the box to it's needs.

I was looking at JL as well, the 10W3V3, and running it with a JL XD500/3. I'm upgrading my front speakers as well with Hybrid Audio Clarus series components. I'm still up in the air between a 10" or 12" but from what Uncald figured with the music I listen to (which is pretty much everything) he recommended a 10"

Those D6's will like .8 to 1.0 cu.ft sealed
You will need less power to get just as loud being ported.
Running a ported enclosure will need more air space ,I think around 1.25 to 1.50. Even ported the box needed for those subs would not be very big.
Check the site for exact air space for sealed and ported.

Dont for get to figure what air space the sub itself takes up inside when building your box or it will have incorrect reccomended air space when you drop the subs in.

I'm still up in the air between a 10 and 12". I used to have 2 12's in my RSX so a single 10" wouldn't be much of a comparison. It seem most people have a single 12 as opposed to a single 10". I don't want to have bass so u can hear me coming for miles, I just want some good extra thump with good quality sound.

Will a 12" still be punchy? I want to be able to hit the lows well but also still get the punchy bass since I listen mostly to rock/metal, some country and some hip-hop/dance....pretty much everything.

I have a single 10" in a sealed box, having compared it to several of my friends who are running two 12" in ported boxes i can safely say that i am very happy with mine, granted that they have pre fab boxes that are possibly not matched to the speakers.I feel that 10" subs hit a lot tighter than 12"s,having said that if you are getting a custom made box matched to the speaker you have you should be quite happy with the sound, tuning and volume are the main key.

Jl Audio are very good,i used to run 3 12" w6 on a Tri Plate powered by a PPI A600 amp along with a multitude of other equipment.I had this in a Thunderbird and had my car in several shows running at 143db.I think you will be very satisfied with the JL's.

I'm looking for good sound quality over SPL. I listen to rock, metal, country, some hip hop and dance.....everything I guess haha. I'd like something that hits hard and makes the double kick drums feel like they're punching u in the face haha

Didn't realize that Eggy. What would be more suited for SQ from the JL lineup?

No i custom made my own enclosure, there is a couple of pictures in my thread, nothing crazy like i had before but like you i was looking to enhance the low end of an already fairly good system, imo i now have the depth and clarity i was looking for without breaking the bank.I also have the majority of my trunk available since that area i have my set up is quite small.
