NavTraffic fails after 10-15 minutes
NavTraffic fails after 10-15 minutes
Have a 2009 TL. Have the XM Radio NavTraffic which has worked fine since purchase. Over the last week or two, it is often not working after 10-15 minutes. When I start the car, it works fine (after a short time to get the signal as normal), but then 10-15 minutes later, all traffic info disappears from the GPS screen. Maybe 5 minutes after that the "TRF" indicator in the upper left disappears.
Don't know whether this is a GPS/XM Radio problem on my car or a signal problem from the satellite.
Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?
If this is a problem with my car, I need to report it soon as my car has 45K miles and the warranty will expire at 50k.

Yep, it a problem for us as well. The issue is with the receiver, Acura knows it but will deny it. I would defiantly take it to the dealer and do a swap for a new system. Another AZ member did this and still had issues. We only get half the information, half the time. The other car (RDX) works just fine in a side by side real time comparison. Take it back and yell loud enough so the rest of us can have what Acura promised us. I for one have a sore throat. (Portland, OR)

I'm driving to Reno later today (5 hours) and should have traffic all the way there. I'll post what happens.
Drove 275 miles today -- San Jose to Reno. Traffic would work for 15-20 min and then stop for maybe 30-45 min and then the cycle would repeat. For the entire four hours driving. Signal or receiver problem?
It worked fine in late December all the way from San Jose to South Lake Tahoe and back....

Same problem here in Houston. I noticed it probably a few days ago. I just made an appointment with Acura for next week. I thought I may have a hardware failure. But now that I see more with this same problem I wonder if XM has something to do with this.
I went into diagnostic mode on the NAVI and on the XM HIP status I can see that XM weather updates every minute but traffic only updates once, right when the car turns on then nothing. Then after 15 min. of no updates it seems to "timeout" and the "last updated" field reads all zeros. That's when traffic fails and disappears from the NAV screen.
Check it out - hold all 3 buttons (cancel/map/menu) for 5 seconds to access diagnostic mode.
I'll let you guys know how it goes at Acura next week.

Guys. It's on XM's side. They actually confirmed it to me today and stated that they are working the issue with started right before Xmas.
Acura actually sent a correspondence to their service departments stating the issue and to refer owners to XM for resolution.
Call XM to see if the issue has been resolved and asked them to refresh your signal. I'm going to continually ask them to do this until my issue is resolved.

I have a 2010 ZDX and noticed a problem with the NavTraffic in the Chicago area since Monday. I spoke with XM Tech Support yesterday and they confirmed that Navteq is at issue. No clue as to a fix for the problem but they did say someone would be in contact with me about a credit for the loss of service.
Same Issue
I'm experiencing the same issue as well. Brew0360's reference to right before Xmas seems right about the time I started seeing it as well, however this week seems have to have been especially frequent. Good to see I'm not alone and that it is on XM's side.

I was experiencing the same problem. After 15-20 minutes the Navtraffic would stop. Had to turn off the engine and re-start to get it back on, but then it would fail again.
I called XM on my way to work today... they reset the data (or something like that) and it seems to work fine now. My ride home was about an hour tonight and it worked the entire time.
Hope it works for everyone... I'll post again if it fails.

Yes, this has happened to me since last week. It is on for 15 mins only, then disappears. I have called XM 4 times for this very problem, the last call being yesterday. They never mentioned to me that this was their problem. Their answer to everything is to "send out a new signal"...this canned answer has frustrated me to no end. I was just short of climbing thru the telephone to strangle these guys. I should've come to the forum from the start. I will now wait for the fix on XM's end. I had thought it was my receiver.

How do you tell if your having this issue?
Can you tell from the last time code update? I know I can see the time for the last update for the weather radar in the corner of the map. How do you tell the time for the last traffic update?
2nd question - what kind of rates have you been getting from xm for all 3 - Traffic/Weather/ and the xm radio ?
I was getting about $20/Q for traffic/weather and a separate 22 odd dollars for 5 months of the radio - but when I had to call back after the 5 months of the radio was about to renew at the regular rate - I initially did the 5mo $22 for the radio again
Problem was the next day - traffic/weather - was inactivated.
After 45min on the phone - they said you cant bill traffic/weather separately from the radio anymore. Then the best offer I got for all 3 was about $60 for 6mo - traffic/weather/radio
Can you post what you pay for all 3??? We have lots of information here for the best xm radio rate - but almost nothing here for all 3
so post your rate / and for how long for traffic/weather and xm radio
So Ill go 1st
about $60 for 6 mo for traffic/weather and xm radio (not best of)

My nav / taffic / weather today says "activation incomplete" 40min on the phone w/ xm - 2 attempts to send activation - still down (but the xm radio is working) could only say that they would get back to me
I had/have the same problem with my 2009 TSX, I spent a weekend on the phone with xm because the traffic stopped working and then took it to the dealer. They replaced the xm control module and the traffic started to work again. The only problem is now I have the “it works for 15 minutes and then stops” problem.
Going back to the dealer;

Acura put out a email memo on 12/23/10 stating the XM acknowledged the NavTraffic issue we are experiencing and they state not to replace any XM hardware components. Not sure what service can do for you other than place the call to XM.
Just got off the phone with XM technical support and they finally acknowledged that they are having a major issue with NavTraffic and Weather. They currently do not have an idea as to when it will be fixed. I'm going to call them every other day and will keep you posted.
Nav./Traffic problem
Same problem, yesterday, in NYC;(Queens, Brooklyn)
Worked for 15 minutes, & then all I had was weather.
After I shut the engine off, & restarted, it came back on
VOODOO!

I just now called as well. They said that they are aware of the problem (especially in Acura's) and are working to fix it. The operator I spoke with said that they will issue me a credit for the time I have been experiencing this problem.

I called XM over the weekend and got a support person who was fairly useless. She did acknowledge that there were outages in "select locations". I asked whether there was a web site to look to see if there were outages in my location, but she didn't seem to understand this question (or there wasn't a script for her to read on her computer).
Regardless, she did "re-activate me".
Today I drove 270 miles from Reno to Morgan Hill and it worked all the way.
Can't explain why....but I'm glad it worked.

After numerous calls to XM and dealing with their same solution to all problems "let me send an activation signal to your radio" it finally started to work again on my way home today. XM never admitted to me that they had an issue. Seeing that it only started working about 24 hrs after I called, I am not sure if my call was actually the fix. Maybe XM just finally figured it out. Regardless I'm not holding my breath just yet.
Anyone else working again?
Anyone else working again?
xm service is awful every time I have to call is a pain - long hold times - only to get someone who can't fix my problem (traffic / weather - still says inactive) - then they transfer me to someone else - who also can not fix the problem. They are reading from scripts and I get the feeling that I understand the problem more than they do. - like turn your radio to ---xxx channel to ck the weather and traffic - no it is just a separate function for the display. they are not trained enough. Oh yah they will credit me for the time w/ out the service - but who is going to credit me for the loss of my time on the phone w/ xm >>??

I usually have the same issue with XM/Nav Traffic people. Today I got lucky and talked to a competent person on the first try. I wonder if you have to have your signal refreshed to get the Nav to work properly again?
Yes, XM customer service is plain awful. It brings out the worst in me, all of the time. I have called 5 times and absolutely no one knows what they are doing...and btw, my Nav traffic finally worked for my entire drive home (40 min) yesterday without having to send the signal again.
They tried that twice (after 2 long periods of holding on the phone) - didn't work
You can actually refresh/activate your radio without calling in. This is what I did. Below is the link to do so

beats being on hold forever for something I can try on my own.
As a follow-up to my earlier post... I was having the same trouble as everyone else here. I callled XM on Jan 7th and they refreshed the data signal for my car (or something like that). I haven't had any problems since... seemed to have worked for me.

Upadate...
Guys, when I do the PA Announcing for our hockey team here in Kansas City, I usually have a 35-40 minute drive to the arena and then the same drive back home.
This weekend, I seemed to not have this problem anymore. I did not do a refresh, so I was constantly watching my Nav screen. But I didn't seem to have the problem on Friday and Saturday nights.

I tried the refresh myself from the web and no luck
I'll have to wait until later in the week when I will have more time to waste on hold w/ XM
If they dont fix it - I may just cancel the whole thing and use Pandora and my iPod

Well my Nav/Traf had been out since the 9th of this month
Xm tried a refresh - said they would pass it up the chain and someone would call me - no one ever did (I tried 2x myself from the web - with no luck (a refresh))
So today I called ready to cancel the whole thing if they could not fix it
So I picked the phone option to go straight to the cancel dept
In ten min they had it fixed
The key I believe is don't waste your time w/ the regular cust serv reps or the regular tech reps
go straight to the cancel dept - they have the skills to fix your issues

I had thought I had successfully done so - when 2 days later the traf/Nav failed (had been working w/o problems for a long time) - long story short I spent about 2.5hrs total (over the last 30days)on the phone/on hold w/ xm. -- all just calling for the good renewal rate and then to fix what failed afterwards.
Until the last rep fixed it all in about 10min yesterday
Do you know what they did to fix it? I had almost the same exact problem. I called to clear up some billing issues (there's a first for XM, eh?). After talking to three reps, it was finally straightened out. The next day, XM Traffic stopped working.
Sheesh - this is the gang that can't shoot straight.
