yes we have found the problem, there was an extra wire in our harness, we have eliminated this wire and now audio works correctly

$375 shipped to Toronto, Ontario, Canada ? (can you mark it low value or gift or something to save me any duties/import/taxes etc.?)

Also- the $375 price, what connections are in this unit? So I can go back a DVD player, connect it via component ? and have it installed into my glove box or wherever, pop in any DVD, and the audio will come through the car?

Can you give me some exact detail as i Know this thing has changed so many times - is it just 1 version at the moment?

as far as i know there are two available connection composite or component from the looks of it i think u can hook up a dvd player and go that route.

i just had mine installed with the component unit. and hooked it up to my iphone and it works as they said hold cancel for 3 sec bam video comes right on. i tried it w/ netflix and you tube and it works like a charm.

on the install was a little pain in the A$$ due to added thick cable/wires and the navtool unit there wasnt much room in there so i had to tuck and squeeze some wires arround. also i didnt hook up the acc/12v or Ground to the wires where it tells u in the video.( i wanted to keep the original harness OEM just in case) i hook it up at the driver fuse box(where i hooked up my escort radar just splice it together) and it works just ran the wires a little longer but it all gets covered.

i do have a question for the other who had install them where did u put the iphone hookup cable at. right now mine is in the center constable tuck in the carpet right next to the passenger seat belt (i have this white cable dangling out of it.. just need some advice./suggestion on where to make it look neat.

(i was debating on drilling a hole at the passenger little holder thing next to there left knee and the radio.(i hope u guys w/ 4g knows what im talking about)

All in all this is a product i have been looking for. and thanks nav tool for this product although it took a while.

ps i have a seagate go flex satellite hdd comming this week. i will see if it will stream video to the nav units..

Does it recognize and play video files off a USB key or via external hard drive?

Also - I know a car expert may know, but is it easy to hardwire a small DVD player (power wise) into a car?

Hi

USB is only for Charging, if you have never done any installation in a vehicle , hard-wiring small DVD player could seem like very hard task, we always recommend hiring a professional to help you out, this will ensure proper installation and prevent any damage to the interior of the vehicle

Navtool Review

I just paid $100 just have the local shop install the Navtool in my TL Tech Advance.

The installer said it was a very straighforward install. He did mention that it was so cramped behind the radio with all the wires and the box that it took 2 people to hold the wires and tuck everything in while sliding the radio back.
(also make sure your installer has the radio code so they can test the unit.) We could't test it until I came to pick up the car.

I did notice an extremely slight whine in the audio feed that seems to stay in line with the alternator, but I'm pretty sure that is because of the cables being so scrunched together. It is extremely slight and WAY better than my last Nav Module in my 2005 TL that had an FM modulator.

I bought a 6' component cable from Amazon and I had the installer run it inside the center console. there is about 2' of slack with is just enough room for me to control the iphone while plugged in.

I bought an app called Goodplayer that so far has been playing all sorts of video types with no problems.

I am very pleased with this device so far. I'll give it a good workout in the next few weeks and post more feedback. Well worth the $. Thanks again Navtool for making this a reality.

Hello,

I am interested in the purchasing one of your navtool kits for the 2009 Acura TL. I was hoping you get some more details on the features it provides. I also noticed that it seems to come with Apple Integration of the iPod and the IPad, is any alternatives to that as I only purchase Android products which use HDMI and would absolutely have no use for any Apple Integration.

Hi

Well our interface comes into 2 version one with component video audio input and one with composite audio video input, I have seen some android phone that are able to output component video, maybe you remodel is capable of doing that?

My phone actually doesn't as I just noticed while reading your response but I think I can find some good uses with the Component cables. What are the process of the two versions? I'm pretty electrical handy so you don't need to worry about explaining the process of my next question. You guys mentioned in the video that if a computer is connected to your tool, the joystick would be your mouse. I have no intent of changing that but say i would like to hook up a wireless mouse or a better option, a touchpad...in general how hard is it to add on another mouse/pointer device. I mean i guess connecting it to the carpc would be the obvious but how is the stock joystick connected to the computer source? Since i thought the external computer just went through some kind of video source, I'm having trouble imagining how the joystick would work unless the computer was limited to a size that would fit behind the center console.

So what is this video talking about at 5:55?

http://www.navtool.com/newvidolder.aspx

After all that of avoiding my questions, I went to use their online chat feature on their website. Honestly, it just made me feel more strongly about what others have said in this thread, even though it works, I just cannot see myself buying a product from a business that doesn't seem to maintain a professional ideal:

NavTool Sales: hi
me: hello
me: Are you the guy responding to e-mails through sales@navtool.com?
NavTool Sales: how can i help you?
NavTool Sales: yes
me: did you get my last e-mail because it seems as if your not really being consistent with what your website is advertising
me: chiukk1@gmail.com
NavTool Sales: let me check
me: thanks
NavTool Sales: product in the video was never released
me: so why are you advertising it?
NavTool Sales: navtool.com/newvideo.aspx
NavTool Sales: this product was final one
me: there's two videos at the bottom of the link you sent me
NavTool Sales: i know
me: is the link to the video that I sent you before
NavTool Sales: link for waht i send you is what was actually released
me: that's an installation video not a features video
NavTool Sales: it has only one feature, single video input , compoiste or component
me: ok forget it, im not going to argue this. so the only feature im getting is one v/a input?
me: okay
NavTool Sales: yes
me: i can't exactly say that's worth it, do you guys plan on coming out with a more featured model?
me: by the way, on the azurazine thread you guys made, you guys also mentioned something about a USB integration
NavTool Sales: no, because tv tuner in USA isnt good as number of channels we cut dont, and vga feature was too many issues
me: what were the features with VGA? why not just go with HDMI then
NavTool Sales: HDMI is not planned yet

No. I'm not happy that I couldn't find the details of a product easily and that I had to actually contract your customer support directly and after communicating with it, got the idea that you guys either aren't 100% sure of what you guys want to sell or 100% on being on the same page. The video has no place still being on your website does it? It causes confusion. I for one, don't care about price as long as if I'm expecting something, it would be nice to have it available. Also my questions were never answered best to an "expert's" ability. Instead I felt like I knew more about this type of technology than you guys do.

Hi

I have read your post and it seems like every question you asked was answered, I also noticed that you were looking for some features like computer connection that we simply not able to provide. If you have any other question I'll be glad to answer as detailed as possible

Okay well answer me this one then. This product description page isn't accessible through the car section: http://www.navtool.com/acuratl3-2.aspx. Therefore, I'm not using it in the same way as I used the video as obviously you guys refuse to acknowledge the problem there. This product description page was probably uploaded relatively the same time as the video, the fact that both products account for more than 1 feature like you have told me was available (component or composite versions), your willing to sell both at the same price to us at AcuraZine when it seems like we're your guinea pigs anyways? What I mean is, you intended to sell this product at the same price no matter how bad it failed during the development process.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by same price?

originally interface was priced at $500

the current version that we now sell is priced at $375

Iceman,

I know where you're coming from. I'm not really sure what is going on with their website. The product isn't listed there, and when I called to order it, there was a bit of a language barrier.

All that aside, I decided to risk it and give the guy my CC# over the phone to purchase the unit (it was $375 shipped).

I received it a few days later (I'm in SoCal) and paid the local installer $100 to put it in.

I've been using it for a few weeks now and the only problem I had turned out to be a component cable that had come loose in the back from being scrunched in when they reseated the radio.

So far so good. I can videos, netflix, youtube etc. and no problems with the unit.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions or need help.

714tman,

Thanks for understanding, I was thinking that I was being a bit impatient for a second there. I think the main reason why I'm irritated is because I have been reading this progress mentioned in this thread on and off along with checking up on the website back & forth and the fact that I was semi-hyping myself up to get this product then realized it was only capable of supporting one video input and doesn't even have an integrated management system like stated in the video (does it? - Like how do you toggle between sources...since the video isn't reliable can we get a reliable features video? - I'm a visual person, and I'd like to see the product in action before I actually invest into it).

If I end up buying this product, it's because of my fellow AZiners and not because of NavTool's awesome customer support.

I totally know where you are coming from! I followed this thread as well and was disappointed to learn that the final product did not have all of the features that their first video claimed to have.

The product I purchased from them will only switch between the component video input and the car's stock navi/audio screen. This is accomplished by pressing and holding the cancel button on the dash for 3 seconds.

For me, I would have liked more options, especially an HDMI input for my Droid RAZR, but I got tired of waiting.

I had the composite unit installed today and it switches from the map to the external video just fine. I have a KVH Satellite system (DirecTv), DVD player and iPod all connected to a 3-way composite switcher that then connects to the Navtool device. The video from Vevo, Netflix and Slingplayer all worked well. My main concern is the annoying audio whine that is present. I did notice that it is mainly present when my vehicle's engine is running. I did not notice the whine when I had the engine off and the vehicle's key in the accessory position.

Any thoughts?

Hi

Try disconnecting your video switcher and connecting your iDevice directly I'm sure all audio whine will go away.

I eliminated the switcher and am still experiencing the audio issue when connected directly to the iPod and iPhone.

That customer didn't mention the audio at all, only the video. I can totally agree with his comments regarding the switching and video playing. I have no complaints about that. My vehicle has a rear entertainment system installed. I can move the sources from the NavTool interface to the rear input jacks and view the picture and listen to the audio without any whine at all. Additionally, the other customer had a component interface and I have a composite interface. I'm not sure if the other customer had to cut any wires as I did since a connector for my interface was not available.

All things considered, the interface is still a very good product.

I would still recommend it to others.
