Navigation update DVD available?
Just got an email and this year's DVD apparently is for the 09-10 TL.
Not sure if it's worth $150, I find the map in my location pretty good. The points of interest I guess can be updated but is that really worth it?
Anyone thinking about this or have purchased this?

I buy the updated discs-I just want to have the latest disc.
Some don't feel like it's worth it-it's a personal thing....

I'm kind of blown away at how bad the POIs are on my brand new '12 TL. Within 5 miles of my house, there's probably 15 places that have been closed at least 4-5 years still listed. I wouldn't pay for an update unless I had some reason to suspect they actually fix their lists.

Yes, the highways are definitely updated, which is a huge help.

I too, have a 2012 Tl Tech and it took me on a around-about course to a destination I am familiary with and have driven many times. Previously I have used a no-name GPS and got far better guidence. I don't believe I could have gotten the latest iteration of the map.

^Sometimes the route setting (direct, easy, or maximize freeway) will determine how the system generates a path. For example, if you have the system set on "direct" it might put you on an 35 mph access road running parallel to the freeway even though you have a seven mile journey to your destination and the freeway would be faster. Or, the opposite, you might have it set to maximize freeway and it will tell you to get on the freeway even though you only need to travel 1-1/2 miles down the access road.
However, it did tell me to make a U-turn in the middle of the bridge over the Columbia river. So it is not perfect.

It was my understanding that the 2012 is HD based and that to update you load the disc which will then download the updates (although during my initial test drive my wonderfully informed salesman proceeded to tell me that unlike the 3G the 2012 TL is hard-drive based and the maps update automatically so there would be no need for a DVD update....)
