I am adding the JL Powerwedge box & Phoenix Gold (old school) amp from my 2003 TLS into my 2011 TL Tech. I like the functionality of the sub "gain" controller on the factory HU. Can I just tap into the wires going to the factory sub (which will be removed), plug them into my LOC and the gain remain working?

Yes you can,i disconnected the feed from the original sub and took a feed from there to the amp,i did not use a LOC since my amp have speaker level inputs.
You maintain all the functionality of the head unit,there is a member here who has done extensive mod to his stereo,check his thread at this link
