Head unit firmware?

I presently have a 2010 TL w/Tech package. I recently had it at the dealer and was given at 2013 as a loaner and noticed some differences in the audio/nav system interface -- that album art and playlist name are both now displayed when playing from an iPod, for example. Given that one or two of the physical buttons on the unit were changed, I'm assuming it's not a simple firmware update and requires the new hardware in order to obtain those interface improvements but wanted to ask forum members if they knew for sure. Anybody know?

2012 was a mid-generation refresh and they changed a number of things. Manufacturers almost never update cars with new features after they're released (Tesla is an exception), the 2010 model year will always be tied to the 2010 firmware. Now outside of what's officially possible, can you hack a 2010 into running 2012 firmware? Probably, anything is possible with software, but it would take a lot of reverse engineering and there's been no serious effort to do that by anyone as far as I know.

That would be cool. i.e. hack the firmware. I would to see album art on 2009 TL User Interface.
