HDD ripping restriction removal

Haven't tried this yet, what does it do exactly? It already rips home-made CDs fine....

Is it worth it?

The restriction is that you can't rip any CDs, turning it on will disable the CD ripping feature. If you're able to rip CDs the restriction is already off.

Couldn't find this in any of the TL manuals, but in regards to ripping, does anyone have any technical details on the encoding levels used when ripping from CD to the hard drive? As I use my iPod touch quite a bit, and rip at 320 kbps, I'm quite happy with the touch. Just curious if the TL was set up for quantity vs. quality...

correct, HDD restriction already removed

Found the diagnostic function (cancel + menu + map) and when I selected HDD ripping restriction it asked me if I wanted to "turn HDD ripping to OFF"? So of course I got out of there. I wonder why some people's restrictions were left on and who turned mine off already!

Anyway, I've had no problems ripping home-made music CD's. Surprisingly back-up copies of CDs I made back in college actually contained correct Gracenote info so now I'm just popping in a CD on my commute to work and the HDD faithfully rips the CD while I listen to the radio, very nice!

Regarding the compression quality, if I do the rough math of Acura's initial claim (the current website says 3600 songs) of 2500 songs in a 12.7gb HDD, that is roughly 5 Mb per song. I figure that's in the 128kbps range for mp3, but it sounds a little better than that to me?

I agree with you on the HDD compression vs. sound quality - to me, it also sounds better than 128 kbps. Would be a great option for end-users to select a "low", "medium", or "high" encryption setting to suit one's needs/tastes... wonder if there is a way to get at this setting... hmmm.

Has anyone tried to rip from a CD-RW disc or a DVD with .wav files written on it?

You cannot write DVD-audio files to the HDD, but I haven't tried a CD-RW as I don't own any, but it should work as long as it's compiled as red book equivalency.
