Gosher's Blind Spot Monitoring System: Install and Pics

9 Attachment(s)
As many of you know, I have been debating the purchase of Gosher’s New Blind Spot Monitoring System. I finally pulled the trigger on the new “Premier” Model with 4 sensors. The old model has 2 and is still available. The price for the “Premier” Model is $329.00. The 4 sensor model uses some new algorithm BS and is supposed to be more accurate.

http://www.goshers.com/products/blin...bsds3016p.html

When I received the package, I was impressed with the quality of the kit and the connectors. Very well made and waterproof seals were used on the outside components. The Customer Service and CEO of the company were great to deal with. My only disappointment was with the LED Indicators. I felt the quality and look was not great. Because of this this, I purchased the OEM Acura Blind Spot Indicators from the Advance Model and installed them to the Gosher’s system. This was an easy mod, snapped into the doorframe after removing the panels. The hardest part was getting the wiring through the factory grommets. The pricing for the indicators and plastic trim were $110.00 from Acura.

I had the 4 sensors painted Mayan Bronze Metallic to match the color of the car. You are able to put 1 thin coat of color and one thin coat of clear. Anything more screws up the sensitivity. A 22mm hole needs to be drilled into the bumper for each sensor. This is the big downside to the install. We had to be sure there was nothing obstructing the clearance or we would be screwed! There is a range for placement (height, distance from front/rear and angle) on the sensors that have to be followed for accuracy.

The Main Unit get’s installed in the trunk behind a panel. The wiring is basic and connections for the turn signals and reverse get hooked up. There is also a speaker that was installed under the dash. If you put on the blinker and a car is in the blind spot, an audible goes off.

Overall I am impressed with the system. It’s a great mod if you can get past the holes in the side of your car. If you move past the car 5 feet or more, you wont notice the sensors. Currently, the system is not working 100%. I am having some sensitivity issues with the unit. I am working with Gosher's on resolving this. I may have to go with unpainted sensors. Overall, I think the company will do well with the system.

Finally, let’s not see any posts of how the “little blind spot mirrors” added to the TL or "look over your shoulders" We have been down that road before. Enjoy!

Nice post. I have it stock on my car and love it. I still do the cursory look (most times) but I do look the BSI a lot.

sympley May 21, 2013 10:33 PM

Very nice.

Quick question why did you go aftermarket not OEM? OR is it not possible to install teh BSI from Advance model?

VQPower37 May 21, 2013 10:46 PM

thats some great work man!!! i think it looks really good

I would have loved to go OEM. When I priced out the parts it was over $2,200 just for parts. There was no guarantees it would work!

Leebog May 22, 2013 08:46 AM

looks oem to me! great job...what was the damage?

Packagingpro May 22, 2013 09:18 AM

$329.00 Goshers Unit
$110.00 Acura OEM Indicators
$30.00 Paint

Total $469.00

sympley May 22, 2013 01:30 PM

Holly molly 2000 for OEM, that's insane. I gess yo found a nice workaround. Again looks good.

VQPower37 May 22, 2013 08:38 PM

for the price im seriously considering doing this now, my windows are pretty dark, and at night my blindspot is hard to c, for 500 bux cant go wrong

Steven Bell May 22, 2013 11:19 PM

Wow, nice install.

copmagnet82 May 26, 2013 09:14 PM

This is actually very neat . Let us know if you actually get it to work. If you do I may actually put it in my wife's MDX, and maybe even in my TL. Great idea with getting the OEM BSI panels... totally something I would do :chuckle: :toocool:.

Nice clean install. Great job!

I have been using the system for 1 week now. Overall it's great, but the system has one major draw back which may be a deal breaker for most. The Blind Spot Detection does not pick up on coming vehicles until they have already reached the blind spot. The factory systems pick this up at least one or 2 car lengths before it gets into the blind spot. I thought originally, it might be a sensitivity issue because I painted the sensors with Metallic Base Coat and a Clear. I spoke to Gosher's Customer Service and they immediately sent me 4 new sensors at no charge. When I installed them, there was no difference. I do have some tricks up my sleeve that I am working on, with tweaks. I will keep you posted!

Edward'TLS May 27, 2013 11:01 AM

^^^^^

Would it help to increase the detection distance if you mount the rear sensors more rearwards towards the corner of the bumper, or even at the rear of the rear bumper instead of the sides of the rear bumper ?

Packagingpro May 27, 2013 11:27 AM

I sent a picture to Goshers and they said the sensors were installed correctly and the system was designed to pick up in the blind spot only. Not on coming vehicles from the rear, etc.

Edward'TLS May 27, 2013 01:03 PM

You know, I too think that your BSI system is working properly.

The factory BSI system also lights up only when there is a vehicle in the blind spot location, and not when the vehicle is outside the blind spot location.

Packagingpro May 27, 2013 02:55 PM

My wife's Mazda CX-9 picks up approaching vehicles 20 feet from behind!

Edward'TLS May 28, 2013 12:21 AM

The BSI (blind spot information) system is to warn driver that there is/are vehicle(s) in the driver's blind spot location(s).

Blind spots are called blind spots simply because if a vehicle happens to be there, the driver will not be able to see it using both the interior and the exterior mirrors.

I'm pretty sure that the mirrors are able to pick them up if there are vehicles 20 ft from behind.

I think the Mazda system is more than just a "blind spot information" system, it is more like a "blind spot and approaching traffic information" system.

You are 100 percent correct. This would be a rear and side detection system. After additional research, I figured it out!

copmagnet82 May 30, 2013 10:32 PM

I'm glad things got sorted out . I may do this just for fun :toocool: in my wife's MDX and on my TL, although I must say that if you have your mirrors set up properly you will never have blind spot issues... nevertheless it is a cool system and a very nice OEM-looking install .

Where did you install your rear sensors? Can you post a picture?

cltgt May 31, 2013 03:26 PM

Awesome!

72482-TK4-A11ZA

I paid $52.25 for each piece

These parts included the indicator and Sash/Garnish

Is there any word if they are going to work on their sensors to pick up objects sooner?

It turns out my system was installed correctly and is working fine. Keep in mind, this system is for the blind spot only, that's it! I did try different, unpainted sensors that Gosher's sent me and there was no difference in sensitivity. You will every once in a while, get some false readings from curbs.

I would install the sensors further back on the rear of the car and angle them to the rear more. I sent the picture below to Gosher's and they verified my install was correct. I would definitely get the new "Premium" system with the 4 sensors.

Packagingpro, I keep wondering what's the point of the other two front sensors, if the rear sensors will do the job, for the 4-sensor BSI system ?

The new system with the additional sensors reduces false alarms and times when the indicators should not turn on. An example would be if you speed past a car. The front sensor would pick it up first, then the back. The indicator would not go off in this situation, because you have seen the car already in the front of you. Now if this car sped up or you slowed down and was in the blind spot, it would go off.

Some algorithm is used in the brain if the system and it does indeed work.

Nexson Jun 3, 2013 07:15 AM

looks like the sensors need another coat of clear

You are suppose to put a thin layer of base coat and a thin layer of clear coat for maximum performance. I actually repainted the new sensors I received and it looks better.

jdmassett Jun 5, 2013 09:58 PM

What do you think labor would could to have this installed by a shop?

Also, does this system mimic the factory sensor cluster in layout? For some reason i thought the new TL's had 4 sensors on the bumper. Is this an always on system, again I think the new tl's have an additional switch where the TCS on/off panel is (left side)

I would figure about $300-$400 for labor. Keep in mind, this system is nothing like the factory and cannot compare. The factory is microwave and the Gosher's is ultrasonic sensors. It's decent, but not perfect because of the range and some false readings.

Blaze9 Jun 8, 2013 10:43 PM

Is there any way for you to see if these sensors trip Radar detectors? I've got a hardwired 9500ix and I know that it gets tripped w/ the OEM Merc blind-spot detector....

Edward'TLS Jun 9, 2013 12:10 AM

^^^^^

The Gosher BSI system should not cause false alarms on radar detectors, because it is using ultrasonic wave to do proximity detection.

Whereas the OEM BSI system is using radar (microwave) to do proximity detection, and thus will affect the proper operation on some radar detectors.

Is correct, you won't have a problem. I have a K40 and its fine!

Stew, do you run in Texas with the X or K Band disabled?

Edward'TLS Jun 9, 2013 03:02 PM

My BEL Vector 940 is also not affected by the my own car's OEM BSI system.

But it will go crazy with the MB BSI system whenever a MB with such is coming near my car.

Nothing disabled in Texas. BTW, I am not running with a detector any longer after having my car broken in to steal my 9500. I had a sweet stealth mount but.. I digress, They are not illegal in Texas.
