Gosher's Blind Spot Monitoring System: Install and Pics
9 Attachment(s)
As many of you know, I have been debating the purchase of Gosher’s New Blind Spot Monitoring System. I finally pulled the trigger on the new “Premier” Model with 4 sensors. The old model has 2 and is still available. The price for the “Premier” Model is $329.00. The 4 sensor model uses some new algorithm BS and is supposed to be more accurate.
http://www.goshers.com/products/blin...bsds3016p.html When I received the package, I was impressed with the quality of the kit and the connectors. Very well made and waterproof seals were used on the outside components. The Customer Service and CEO of the company were great to deal with. My only disappointment was with the LED Indicators. I felt the quality and look was not great. Because of this this, I purchased the OEM Acura Blind Spot Indicators from the Advance Model and installed them to the Gosher’s system. This was an easy mod, snapped into the doorframe after removing the panels. The hardest part was getting the wiring through the factory grommets. The pricing for the indicators and plastic trim were $110.00 from Acura. I had the 4 sensors painted Mayan Bronze Metallic to match the color of the car. You are able to put 1 thin coat of color and one thin coat of clear. Anything more screws up the sensitivity. A 22mm hole needs to be drilled into the bumper for each sensor. This is the big downside to the install. We had to be sure there was nothing obstructing the clearance or we would be screwed! There is a range for placement (height, distance from front/rear and angle) on the sensors that have to be followed for accuracy. The Main Unit get’s installed in the trunk behind a panel. The wiring is basic and connections for the turn signals and reverse get hooked up. There is also a speaker that was installed under the dash. If you put on the blinker and a car is in the blind spot, an audible goes off. Overall I am impressed with the system. It’s a great mod if you can get past the holes in the side of your car. If you move past the car 5 feet or more, you wont notice the sensors. Currently, the system is not working 100%. I am having some sensitivity issues with the unit. I am working with Gosher's on resolving this. I may have to go with unpainted sensors. Overall, I think the company will do well with the system. Finally, let’s not see any posts of how the “little blind spot mirrors” added to the TL or "look over your shoulders" We have been down that road before. Enjoy! Gosher's Kit! Nice post. I have it stock on my car and love it. I still do the cursory look (most times) but I do look the BSI a lot.

Very nice.
Quick question why did you go aftermarket not OEM? OR is it not possible to install teh BSI from Advance model? |
thats some great work man!!! i think it looks really good

$329.00 Goshers Unit
$110.00 Acura OEM Indicators $30.00 Paint Total $469.00 |
Holly molly 2000 for OEM, that's insane. I gess yo found a nice workaround. Again looks good.

for the price im seriously considering doing this now, my windows are pretty dark, and at night my blindspot is hard to c, for 500 bux cant go wrong
|
Wow, nice install.
|
This is actually very neat . Let us know if you actually get it to work. If you do I may actually put it in my wife's MDX, and maybe even in my TL. Great idea with getting the OEM BSI panels... totally something I would do :chuckle: :toocool:.

Nice clean install. Great job!

Would it help to increase the detection distance if you mount the rear sensors more rearwards towards the corner of the bumper, or even at the rear of the rear bumper instead of the sides of the rear bumper ? |
I sent a picture to Goshers and they said the sensors were installed correctly and the system was designed to pick up in the blind spot only. Not on coming vehicles from the rear, etc.
|
You know, I too think that your BSI system is working properly.
The factory BSI system also lights up only when there is a vehicle in the blind spot location, and not when the vehicle is outside the blind spot location. |
My wife's Mazda CX-9 picks up approaching vehicles 20 feet from behind!
|
The BSI (blind spot information) system is to warn driver that there is/are vehicle(s) in the driver's blind spot location(s).
Blind spots are called blind spots simply because if a vehicle happens to be there, the driver will not be able to see it using both the interior and the exterior mirrors. I'm pretty sure that the mirrors are able to pick them up if there are vehicles 20 ft from behind. I think the Mazda system is more than just a "blind spot information" system, it is more like a "blind spot and approaching traffic information" system. |

I'm glad things got sorted out . I may do this just for fun :toocool: in my wife's MDX and on my TL, although I must say that if you have your mirrors set up properly you will never have blind spot issues... nevertheless it is a cool system and a very nice OEM-looking install .
Where did you install your rear sensors? Can you post a picture? |
Awesome!

Quick Question, What is the Part Number for the OEM indicators and plastic trim from Acura, if you happen to have them? TY,...

72482-TK4-A11ZA I paid $52.25 for each piece These parts included the indicator and Sash/Garnish |
Is there any word if they are going to work on their sensors to pick up objects sooner?

I would install the sensors further back on the rear of the car and angle them to the rear more. I sent the picture below to Gosher's and they verified my install was correct. I would definitely get the new "Premium" system with the 4 sensors. http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/o...G_1438rev2.jpg |

Packagingpro, I keep wondering what's the point of the other two front sensors, if the rear sensors will do the job, for the 4-sensor BSI system ?

Some algorithm is used in the brain if the system and it does indeed work. |
looks like the sensors need another coat of clear

What do you think labor would could to have this installed by a shop?
Also, does this system mimic the factory sensor cluster in layout? For some reason i thought the new TL's had 4 sensors on the bumper. Is this an always on system, again I think the new tl's have an additional switch where the TCS on/off panel is (left side) |

Is there any way for you to see if these sensors trip Radar detectors? I've got a hardwired 9500ix and I know that it gets tripped w/ the OEM Merc blind-spot detector....

The Gosher BSI system should not cause false alarms on radar detectors, because it is using ultrasonic wave to do proximity detection. Whereas the OEM BSI system is using radar (microwave) to do proximity detection, and thus will affect the proper operation on some radar detectors. |

I have a K40 and its fine! |
my 9500ix was not affected by the OEM package.. but other detectors have been

My BEL Vector 940 is also not affected by the my own car's OEM BSI system.
But it will go crazy with the MB BSI system whenever a MB with such is coming near my car. |
