Getting free Navi update
I purchased a CPO '09 Acura TL w/ tech package and was wondering where I can get a free update dvd for navigation. I know you can pay for them but I'm sure you can find someone who's willing to hook it up.
Ebay?

Navigation
I bought a 43k car... It came with an old Navigation Map disc and then they didn't offer it for free they attempted to charge me $200.00 for it. So, I agree with the poster above the MAP update disc's should be free. I bought my 2009 brand new and it was missing major tollways in the Chicago area. You have any idea how long it takes to plan and build a tollway in a UNION city? You make it sound like a "bootleg" copy is different from a "real" copy. A copy is just that a copy. I am still pretty pissed with Acura that they didn't send us free upgrades for the Maps. There is also a reason that Acura has locked the updates down with a code. My MB, Ford, and Lexus don't need codes to do Map updates.

Since the map discs are autonomous and create themselves out of thin air, requiring no work by anyone to compile and research, put together updated maps and confirm accuracy, burn themselves and package themselves to free media, and then magically materialize upon request so they don't have to be shipped or have any logistical path to the users, then yes, they should be free.
Think how absurd it would be if there were actual businesses and man hours behind the production of that software, that expected to be compensated for their efforts, so they might earn a paycheck and go out and buy cars with navigation of their own.
I'm not arguing that the updates shouldn't be all inclusive to the original owner; I think they should. I'm simply stating it's not new news with Acura/Honda. You want updated nav, you buy the disc. You want to stick it to the dealer and make the stealership eat that $200 - then get better people skills.
Besides, they wised up to the rip and burn, and each input media now must be coded to the VIN of the automobile. Until someone inside Honda leaks what they're building the VIN authorization with, and the logic being used to encrypt the discs, they've just re-monopolized the upgrade market.
