Long time iPhone user and been generally happy with the iPhone intergration. Thinking about possibly android but want to see if I can still get audio via android device to the car via the USB cable.

I just bought a OnePlus One android phone (those things are wonderful)

I have to play music through Bluetooth and the USB port doesn't charge the phone...even in USB debugging mode.

kinda sucks...I'm coming from an iPhone, too

Thanks man. It's kinda sad that we can't stream music via USB port to our cars using android and can only do via aux or bluetooth.

The reason is because Android's when connected via USB treat it as a MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) which computers recognize just fine. Sadly the Acura Radio only recognizes standard USB Disks or crApple connection. Typical of Acura though to sell "Technology Packages" that have dated tech in them. 09-11 had a damn USB 1.1 connection in them for crying out loud (hence why its slow as b's!) 12+ at least got a 2.0 treatment, all the while 3.0 was out during these times...

And as far as the recognize to charge, most androids (S3/4/5s for example) expect the 2.1A signal for solid charging and usage at same time. I am not certain what the TL 2012+ brings but the 09-11 uses the older 1.1A which was what Apple iPod/iPhone devices expected.

Seriously what auto makers need to do is just put a damn screen with built in amp to power the speakers in the systems, allow for wireless charging or full speed USB 2/3.0 ports with 2.1A Autosensing adjustment, and then just allow Miracast/Screen Mirroring and Whatever Apple calls their version of it. Stop wasting money on R&D for these shitty proprietary systems that require retarded amounts of annual lame updates that don't really update anything save a few POI places and some streets. Google Maps/Apple Maps whatever your choice can just be screen mirrored to the display, and has all the latest and greatest info, movies, music, etc gets done the same way! End of story... And doesn't need to cost 2-4k!
