Acura horrible navigation

Are any of you happy with your gps? My 2011 tl direction are so bad that I'm actually afraid to use it. It does get me to where I want to go but the routes that it chooses are just plain nonsense. For instance today wife and I were coming back home in NJ. GPS said to go over a bridge($14toll) to Manhattan then immediately make a uturn and go back to NJ. I actually took a picture of this. Anyway can I somehow get this fixed? It was never updated but the roads where there in 2011 so it's more of gps algorithm than out of date issue.

Nope, I've had the navigation screw with me too. Even today, I was using it to get me to a Chipotle on Rt 17, and as I rode down I-95 toward NJ Rt 3, it randomly told me to "make a U-turn whenever possible"... then changed its mind and told me to continue on the same route when I didn't turn around...

I swear this thing would tell me to drive into a tree and "recalculate" if I refused.

I don't think there's a single in car GPS unit that gives directions better than Google Maps, so I just stick to them.

would be nice if google got themselves involved with manufactures to integrate their maps onto the nav as opposed to using navteq or teleatlas. I feel the only route guidance to trust is on your phone, even garmin is horrible in directing

Yes the Acura Navi is a very poor performer at best. I like my old $99 Garmin GPS unit much better. I wish the Garmin was the built in unit.

i never had that experience the recalculate can be a pain sometimes or when the road is straight forward but they want you to make the left instead. Ive been training myself to look at the streets close to my destination before i turn on them because it almost had me turn on a one-way even with the navi update. The only think i do not like is that when you type in a search option to find a location 7 out of 10 times you will need the actual address.

But OP how are your such as most use of highways or local roads only maybe you should change the preference ? just a question.. I have have one question when im going to new york or through ny i never use the tunnels or gw i always go tappan zee because toll is way less $5 and less traffic so 2+ my problem is when coming back, if im in the bron or something my problem is the gps(issue ) doesnt give the option to take tappan zee only 95 back to jersey . I know there is no toll but that traffic is just a killer if anybody knows. I know how to catch the tappan zee coming from connecticut or NE area but when im in the bronx i cant.

What makes me unhappy with my gps is not so much the way it navigates, but more so the outdated graphics. No way in hell should the nav on a 2010+ Acura vehicle still look like the nav in a 2003 Accord. At the very least, a 3D view would've been nice.

Since we are talking about navi on TL. Has anyone seen any improvements to the newest 2015 update v3.10.10.D0 on TL yet??? Just wondering If it's worth to get the newest 2015 purple DVD update for my 2012 TL.

Mine did the exact same thing to me at the same place. I was visiting a friend in Alpine and heading south when that same screen came up. I thought maybe I hit a previous destination instead of home. I pulled over and d I uble checked and then turned off the GPS. It's a bad setup and the voice commands aren't great either.

Its already out there, its called Apple car play, and Android auto. Many manufacturers are already integrating the systems into the new vehicles. The radios will be able to be linked to your phones apps like Google Maps

Live in central NJ myself, sister in edgewater, drive to the city all the time. No issues. Out here in Chicago right now and same thing, 09 navigation gets me throughout the city wherever i need to go.

I rarely ever use mine, but I bet there are a few of those odd directions like the OP has gotten. I had mine on because I'm not familiar with the Palisades, but I knew where I was going once I got to the spot the OP has pictured. I'm now going to use it more and see where else it takes me. I know that google maps is not fool proof either, it gives you some weird directions as well.

I use mine all the time. Never have an issue. I guess I also have a basic idea where I am going so if it does tell me to go a way I don't want to go, it will recalculate once it catches up to me. It looks to me like the system on the OP is trying to select an exit or something based on not being able to turn left or no exit in the area or something.

I can tell you from experience, ours is pretty good. I rent cars a lot and many of them are very difficult, give bad directions, or just plain hard to read. I had a Jeep recently and I am certain the car wanted to go down dirt roads and not on the freeway, even though I was traveling 50-100 miles... My wife has a new Chev and I have almost given up. Especially because you can not input anything while the car is moving. It is easier to log in to the On Star app and enter an address then send it to the truck over trying to put the info in on the Nav. And talk about frustrating voice commands. I must be foreign or the Nav wants me to be... My In-Laws also have a Lexus and I can not stand their Nav. The screen is complicated and that mouse thing is annoying...

As for using your phone - why? those apps aren't very good either. And why look at a small screen when you have that big one in front of you? I guess I am traveling to businesses that have been in the area before and although roads change, they don't change very often and I usually am aware of the road construction so I know the change next time I am in the area...

It just comes down to use what you are used to. I like the Acura Nav and will continue to use it over my iPhone...

Just take 87 north and that will take you to tappan zee. There is ~$1 toll on 87 in Yonkers

Another one. Went to hit the slopes this weekend and thank god I did not follow the directions. I think gps wanted me to visit every peak before I actually put my board on. Anyway it's Waze for directions from now on

The GPS in my 2012 and 2013 TL works perfectly in and around Los Angeles and I like it very much. I too have a Garmin when I travel and rent cars and they are both solid systems. Acura GPS gets a thumbs up from me.

ie Miracast... We don't need to waste time money and RD effort on these over priced POS factory systems. A simple display, with various input connections to include miracast (and whatever Apple calls their version of screen sharing), bluetooth and some damn preouts for amps if someone should desire to add amps/subs. Done...

No stupid map updates/fees etc. Google Maps, Pandora, Netflix whatever will simply be shared on your screen and as up to date as the App and Phone are.

I'm sick of the factory systems (used to immediately replace them back in the day) but since the straying away from traditional DIN/DoubleDin shapes and sizes is growing more and more that requires some serious custom console work making it too much a PITA for average people to have their cars the way they want them. Not some dumbed down faux "technology" package BS that is years outdated from the get go.

I had been considering finally getting an update to my '09 maps. That changed when I went to Vancouver over the holidays in my wife's Pilot (same nav system). It was terribly unreliably, trying to direct me the long way every time. The last straw was when I wanted to get back to my brother's place in North Van after a day out, and chose my destination using "Previous Destinations"...because I was in Vancouver proper at the time, it directed me to the same address, only in Vancouver instead of North Vancouver. That, to me, is a huge design flaw.

I am lukewarm on our navigation systems and I have had both good and bad experiences with it...but I do think inputting the information can be a bit annoying, though. If the navi wasn't bundled with the other things I really want and like (backup camera, ELS sound system...) I probably wouldn't bother. Yes, integration can be nice but the cons outweigh the pros for me.

I just got mine and moved up from a 2013 Mazda 3 - the Mazda had a TomTom system which I was actually pretty happy with. Full touch screen and easily updated through an SD card from TomTom directly.

The Acura's nav seems ok, I actually like the direction list on the right side of the screen but I'm not a huge fan of the scroll wheel. The touch screen was far easier to use, though it did lock you out from making route changes while moving.

I'll probably only really use it from time to time, which is far less than I did with the Mazda.

Same here. It's really odd on how some pretty simple things are missing from this GPS.

The only thing I can add to this thread is that the one thing worse than the GPS is the Traffic subscription. What was I thinking? The traffic only shows up on interstate highways (I am mostly a city driver) and isn't very accurate. I paid around $50-60 for a year subscription. What a waste! All GPS apps offer free real-time traffic on most roads, so the only competitive advantage Sirius XM has is that they can integrate traffic with your car's display and charge you money for the convenience. Don't be a sucker like I was!

Angry mitch with (2016 TLX with Technology Package)

This is my 3rd.TL.The GPS has been very poor at many times.I always back it up with other map systems like Goggle maps, IMaps or Waze. The 2016TL's GPS has better commands but very poor directions.Do not trust it! Example:instead of staying on a major Pkwy.with no traffic,it takes me on side st.through the city in opposite direction-Why?

Heck I dont have much complaints, I punch in the address I usually get right there. Certainly Acura's quality of getting maps update in the area is pretty bad ( rural) however the same can be said about the new Lexus nav - same exact problems.

Deactivate navigation screen

Is there a way to deactivate the navigation system/screenwithout deactivating the satellite radio? I rarely use the navigation system and find that it interferes with the reverse camera.
