CPO really doesn't mean anything. Get the car checked out for with a Pre-Purchase Inspection. Buy an autocheck and a carfax account or ask the dealer for the print outs.

Any sort of EXCLUSION WARRANTY (usually the best plan offered) is what you want from a 3rd party company. I paid about 10K for the plan on my 760, it's paid out over 55K worth of repairs since I've had the car. These plans state WHAT IS NOT COVERED rather than what is covered.

I recommend fidelity warranty services as that's whom I had. I've heard mixed reviews on carchex.

Is it recommended to get a PPI on a fairly new car? Say, 3 years old?

Yes. You don't want to find out surprised AFTER purchasing. PPI is not only for mechanical but also bodywork and stuff.

It's always a good idea to get a third-party PPI for a used car. Whether you have it done at Acura (Honda charges ~$70 for it) or at a trusted mechanic.

If a seller refuses the car isn't worth your time (IMO).

If you do it through the dealer's mechanic, isn't it like biased?

If buying it at an Acura dealership, I'd take it to a third party trusted mechanic. If you're buying it at a non-Acura dealer, I'd take it to Acura to have the pre-purchase done.

What you have to think of is their intent on doing that paid inspection is going to be to point out every little issue in the hopes to take it to them to have them fixed.

The hour or so of their time is well worth it if you end up going back to have all those minor issues fixed there.
