Will there be a 4g Type S??
Everything is speculation right now. Even though the SH AWD is a great package overall I miss the aggressive styling and awesome value of the 3g Type S. Nothing quite like it really, I'm going to miss the car greatly. Here's hoping Acura will indeed bring us a 4g Type S, and at reasonable price.

The RL’s poor sales performance has led to speculation that it will be replaced before 2012, speculation which has been fueled by Bonawitz, who revealed that Acura has a “sedan coming that will clearly put [them] in tier 1″ before 2012.
The RL’s possible replacement may become the Acura that can intimidate the Germans, with a possible 400hp (298kW) 4.5L V8 engine and a RWD layout rumored to be among its list of specs. There’s also the chance that this new sedan will be sold alongside the RL as no final decision on the future of either model has been confirmed. Pictured above is the Acura Advanced Sedan Concept from 2006’s Los Angeles Auto Show, a striking design study for a flagship sedan.
Also rumored to be in the works is a new four-seater coupe as a possible replacement for the CL.
One model that is confirmed is the replacement for the NSX supercar. Seen testing recently at the Nurburgring, the new flagship model is expected to sport a 550hp (410kW) V10 engine with 420lb-ft (570Nm) of torque.
Finally, the RDX will come in for a redesign for the 2011 model year and could spawn a hybrid variant. This will be followed that same year by the next-generation MDX, which could be offered with a new V6 turbodiesel engine. A third SUV model could be added to Acura’s lineup as revealed by a new prototype caught testing recently in California’s Death Valley.

Sorry for continuing the "thread hi-jacking" but in regards to the newer vehicle that Acura is pursuing....

The RL has never really "sold well" so elimination of it wouldn't surprise many of us. The "target" that Acura HAS to shoot for is something along the size of the S-Class Merc, 7-series BMW, A8=series Audi's as well as the Lexus LS and (to a lesser extent) the Maserati Quatroporte (becasue of price, not size). THAT is what they HAVE to have to contend and simply building a bigger RL would NOT make any sense. I mean really now, Is there ANYBODY who compares the RL to ANY of those cars? Nope!

I suggest all of the current Acuras may have a short life.
Like this lines suggests:
So Honda admits all their new cars are junk.
And that starting in 2010, they'll have a car worthy of being called teir 1.
A car about the same level as the TL, just a much better car.
So if they're making a car, about the same level as the TL, and it being much
better than the TL, and them calling the current '09 TL junk basically...
Not hard for anyone to guess that the current TL has little plans outside of SH-AWD.
So will they keep their "sub tier 1" TL and make a TL-S with it?
Or will they concentrate on their "tier 1" replacement instead?

I would guess they'll ditch the 4G TL all together if their tier 1 car does well.

If there is a 4G TL Type-S, it will be 2.5 years away during the MMC update. No earlier. Just like the 2G's and the 3G's.

Keep Right Except to Pass
Honda/Acura custom has been to release the Type-S a couple of years into the product cycle when sales of the initial vehicle have slowed such that they want something to distinguish the vehicle to generate new sales. There's no reason to believe they'll change that now. The Canadian press have reported that a 6MT version of the 4G TL is due in 2010 (although they didn't know whether the FWD or SH-AWD car would get the 6MT), so I would expect that any Type-S would not come until 2011.

More likely, it will be something closer to the Lexus lineup. Where they have both the ES and the IS in relatively the same level. My guess is TL would become the ES equivalent (i.e. big, FWD, based on parent companies top sedan) and the new car would become the IS equivalent (i.e. RWD, etc...)

Anyone who thinks that Acura would replace the TL is an idiot. It's the best selling car in their lineup, and pretty much Acura's "Flagship", forget the RL. If anything, it's Acura's most important vehicle, which makes the most money for the company. Now maybe this new car would replace the TL in terms of the class that it competes in, and move the TL up-market, but I'm not sure that's a good idea considering the TL has a loyal following at a certain price point.

i say they should just beef up the tsx and come out with a type s...or even better a coupe...they should step it up witn the tsx and have it compete with the IS, BMW (3 series), C class Mercedes, G35, Audi A4

I was told (2 years ago) that the TSX would have three engines. The diesel is confirmed for 2010 so there is one more waiting in the wings. My guess is a J32 but I have nothing but a gut feeling based on a few conversations to back this up.

there won't be a type-s anytime soon. There are new cars coming, the rumored expensive crossover and the S2000 replacement. I just don't see a V6 in the TSX, but you never know.

Why not use the turbo 4cyl from the RDX? Give it 10 to 15 more horses and call that the TSX Type-S.

i think acura would have been better off keeping the same 3G body and added the 4G features to it. even if the body is outdated, it still will sell better than the current 4G body.

Hell I bet we live with this body style the entire 5 years of its life, look at the 3G, the MMc was mild at best, sure those mild changes were awesome and really brought the best out of the 3G, but 99% of the car is the same all 5 years. Hell they didn't even refresh the audio system for the Type-S. The 3G Type-S should have gotten a power boost. And please was Acura the last maker to have a cassette in the car through 2008!!
