It's truly amazing how people do not drive/have not driven the 4G TL will CONSISTENTLY enter a forum that asks about PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR TL (of which you have none) and its 0-60 times...and add their completely irrelevant 2 cents.

Spending your Saturday in an Acura forum, with a question specifically aimed at Acura TL drivers (a group you are not a part of), for the sole purpose of trying to stir up useless debate is pretty stupid. Now debate that...

Personally, I thought the 335i 0-60 & 1/4 mile was a bit quicker than I would expect, but you like C&D numbers, so be it. Regardless of which 6MT Doc was referring to its still no contest. IIRC I had a TL 6MT & have a good feel for its capabilities & those capabilities do not include beating most if not all the cars you currently debate here. It was quick in its day, would run with my 330ci 6MT, but that day is done.

Just to be fair I don't think the TL's are not on par with some 3 series in performance. The 2012 TL-AWD 6AT has similar numbers to the 328i 4 cylinder 8AT long term test for C&D, don't you just love those guys, it has 27,000 miles on the clock with $0 expense except for gas at 27mpg over the test. 0-60 in 5.6 & 1/4 mile in 14.2 @ 98mph. Its also Consumer Reports pick of the bunch this year.

2012 TL-AWD
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 6.2 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 15.4 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.6 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.7 sec @ 98 mph
C/D observed: 21 mpg

Thing is if no one cares about 0-60 why post at all? I love competition win or lose, generally those who don’t want to compete worry to much about losing. That everybody loses is a fact of life. I recognize most people who buy a car could care less about its performance envelope & worry if it has enough cup holders.

That being said this is a fan site & fans are usually interested in performance. That was certainly the case here in the past when every other post was about the C&D 2010 test, now suddenly you are all too grown up for that kid stuff.
I don't have any issues with valid forms of data so long as they come from reputable sources and the results are reasonably consistent with other sources. So if we quote the best, which is usually the standard procedure for all cars, when the discussion is relative to performance, and magazines are quoted in just about all performance discussions and contexts even for those that are more race track and drag strip related, it is only appropriate we also quote the best available for all and any other cars in comparison.

You won't find me contesting the C&D results for the 335i. It's not unusually fast given prior results and it's not unusually slow. One thing about magazine quotes is that we know we are dealing with a stock car and the way it would be for normal driving.

I think you're missing the point in my initial response, your response was with regards to the AWD TL in general and 335 in performance, assuming straightline by the C&D quote but I only pointed out that it was specifically considered on par when it comes to 0-60 and only the AWD 6MT. Racing and Competition section labels it differently, I know.

I agree with the 3G remarks, I had 6MT's in an 04 A-spec and an 07 type s but the 4G 6MT is improved in quite a few key performance related areas. Also agree with the 4G 6AT models as well and what it better aligns with for straight performance, as I noted above that the 6AT is not the same as a 6MT for a few different reasons, for better or worse.

It's not that no one cares for 0-60 if it's purely a performance related discussion, but for how that translates to real world, everday driving, it is not the most useful or telling and then there is the issue of the constant misconception that just because the 4G 6MT is AWD and a manual that these are totally overcahieved numbers and not a true reflection when there is data contradicting this and it could easily be considered on par or in the vacinity of the other cars in mention for 0-60 in most cases, and even more so for 5-60, which translates better for how most use their car. Actually in some tests, based on the difference of 0-60 and 5-60, the AWD 6MT gains the least from it's launch relative to the other vehicles in mention.

I'm not debating against the fact that the others are faster or likely faster (when it's closer), I'm merely suggesting not to downplay anything and also keep in mind how and where exactly others might be faster and how that is relevant to someone, and some over others.

I don't know what suggests that members here are not interested in performance. Remember, there is usually lot of hype over a new product and in 09-10 the product was new but as always, hype dies down, we are now at the end of a model generation, that probably should be being replaced in few months but is getting dragged out for another year, also that for better or worse (and for different reasons), the car lost a lot of it's following both here and in real life, so the discussion and enthusiasm would settle down, naturally. Plus we have a dedicated section for that and even Car Talk.

We had many 3G members active here in the begining, and as you know the 3G drew that kind of response. The 4G has aged, it's nothing new, people have moved on to this TL or elsewhere, or are content in staying put. There really is a different set of demographics between the former model and this one, not saying that was necessarily the intention but is the result, and quite frankly, many have actually grown up and we learned how performance varies and where one set or kind of performance might be used differently by let's say someone like you, than someone like me, for examples, and vice versa. Different kinds of cars draw different types of enthusiasm.

I, like many, have little use for bottom of the line, all out, race setting performance. Probably been 5 years since the last time I raced anyone in a 1/4 mile like setting and have only done so a handful of times in my life. Speaking for myself, there are other attributes of a vehicle that come before that, others have different priorities, such as using that kind of performance for entertainment or hobby, such as yourself perhaps, nothing wrong with either but the more and more I come to terms with what is my reality and how a car suites that, the more I actually enjoy the transition. So much that my next ride might actually be an SUV, new MDX is looking real nice about now.

Jesus, you guys....I get so tired of this. This age old question and coversation of 0-60 time does NOTHING but generate fights.
