What's Your Most Important Criteria In A Car Purchase?

Exterior appearance, value (bang for buck), interior appearance, features (quality of nav, tech features, xenon headlights, audio system, instrumentation), driving characteristics (ride/handling/acceleration/steering/braking), reliability, brand cachet...?

For me, I'd say:
1) driving characteristics
2) value
3) features
4) reliability
5) interior appearance
6) exterior appearance
7) brand cachet

I'll go along w/ 1-6, esp #4 for a daily driver, #1 is what pushed me out of the 3G to the 4

This is good for me too, except that I would switch #5 and #6.

The reason I had it with interior trumping exterior is that I figured I spent a lot more time inside the car than in close proximity to it outside.

Yeah, I agree that the personal interface with the car is critical. I am just thinking that if I really dislike the way the car looks I would most likely never get to even experience the interior...

lol yup was looking at those myself. Who needs bi-xenons?

Here's my list:

1) Exterior Appearance
2) Interior Appearance
3) Driving Characteristics
4) Features & Options
5) Reliability
6) MOD-ability
7) Value
8) Brand Cachet

I added my own in there, as to me it's kind of important to be able to add aftermarket mods to my ride. It's not a dealbreaker though, because I don't go crazy with it, but it's definitely important to have options.

Post Mine

1. Reliability: as a previous owner of an American car that literally fell apart on me, I hold this most important & explains why I am only interested in Japanese cars nowadays
2. Value: always a bargain shopper here but I will have to say that this does not necessarily just mean the best bargain in its class, but also a bargain as in how much of a discount I can get
3. Brand Cachet: a firm believer in only trading up here so no going back to non-luxury brands unless it is for a truck or something like that
4. Features: not that I am tech geek but I do like to have toys even if it is just to show off & never use
5. Interior Appearance: as this is the part that I see most it is more important than exterior
6. Exterior Appearance: as long as it is not repulsive I can live with it ... the right color is most important to me
7. Driving Characteristics: I am a joe-average driver which explains why a 4 banger FWD TSX does not bother me; I would hardly ever push a car enough to notice the difference w/ a v6 RWD

No offense but 6 and 7 are perfect for Acura at this point as they are at the lower end of the majority of peoples totem pole. I cannot believe the styling, something I used to like! If you like 1, then BMW/Infinti should be high on your list no?

Exterior is high for me, its like a great pair of shoes or a nice shirt/suit. Reliability and value.
