What would you do? Trade 06 TL for 2010 TL?

All,

I've currently got an excellent condition 06 TL with 38k miles. My dealer is offering what I feel is a good trade price (19k) plus 0% APR on any remaining 2010 models they have in stock. I'd be able to get a new TL for about $15,000 or so out the door after trade. I can pay for this outright, but I'd rather finance at 0%.

My car is completely paid for and has no problems. If you were in my shoes, would you upgrade to the new TL?

Pros
Newer Model
Lower Mileage
New Warranty

Cons
Higher insurance premium.
Having a car payment again.

Can anyone provide pros/cons of this situation that I may have missed? Thanks.

'06 hmmm...no car note. Only 38K miles. If there are no major mechanical issues...I'd keep her. I adore Grace my '09, but Sylvia was paid for and save for mechanical isues, she ran 200k miles, I would have her still. No car note, sweet.

Keep the 06. Wait for the 2012 MMC.

MTX-this is where your logical part of your brain starts taking over. Do you need it, do you want it, do you have to have it....

It is a good deal...you need to weight your own pluses and minuses. It sounds like you've got the money to do it. At the end of the day, it's your call.

Thanks for the replies all.

I'm on the fence still. Part of me wants something newer, "just because." The other part of me is saying to just wait until I actually need a new car.

Is there that much difference in the 06 verses the 10, in regards to performance? The only interior upgrade I would want would be ipod/navi integration.

Would any of you trade down for a new TSX instead? They've got a NICE fully loaded TSX for 31k that has nearly every option I can think of on it.

Either way you flip it, you're paying $15,000 to replace a perfectly working tool. It sounds like you're getting a bit bored with your TL. In which case, might i suggest a new modification? New wheels, tint, drop, engine bolt-on, even a good detail. Something to keep your interest and your bank numbers high.

Get rid of the boredom, and you won't be tempted anymore. However, you don't have to get a new car to get rid of the boredom.

Hmm. Good idea. Maybe I'll look in to some easy mods for it. I'd like some new rims but wouldn't want something that would screw up the suspension.

I traded in my 07 TL-S that was coming off lease for my 2010. But to be honest, when this 2010 gets paid off in a cpl years I'm going to drive it for many many miles with no car payment.

I'll agree with the above, no car payment > *

Petec: Can you honestly say that your 07 TL-S can even compare to your new ride (w/SH-AWD and 6 speed manual tranny)? Curious minds wish to know!

To the OP, if you love to drive, and can get your deal on a 2010 SH-AWD with the manual tranny, you'll not think twice in pulling the trigger and I highly doubt you'll have any regrets (unless you abhor the current styling; which I happen to love). Assuming you also can live with the limited color selection that is likely still remaining. Peace.

I would keep the 06 TL. With only 38k and in excellent condition, your getting rid of a perfectly good machine. No need to rush into getting a new car when you have a perfectly good TL already. Plus having no car payment gives you less to worry about financially.

Drive the car for a couple more years and wait for the 2012 MMC and 6AT.

I traded in our 2006 TL (black/biscuit, navi, 6MT) for a 2010 TL (black/black, tech, SH-awd, 6MT). The 2010 is a much better car: handling is superb with the SH-awd system; better torque, better horsepower; no rattles. The 2010 gives great value PLUS a great driving experience. Maybe the best sports sedan out there for the money.

Keep the 06. I was in a similar position to you last year. I have an 05 with then 50K miles on it. It was paid off. I had an itch for a new car, the 09 TL. I decided to hold off. I got an iSimple (works great). It's been over one year with no car payment and my car runs great. I'll keep it for another 2 years or so. We'll see what the next generation TL looks like.

You're 06 is will be losing you equity so it will cost you more then $15k to buy the new TL in a couple of years.

If you are upgrading to a AWD 3.7 L, yes the performance will be better. Bluetooth, IPOD, USB Flash. I would probably be upgrading. If you want to wait till the mid cycle refresh then thats cool too.

I'm in the same shoes. I have 06 TL, 6MT, Navi and 20K miles (I drive to the train station only). Car is perfect in every way (cosmetic and mechanical). It's paid-off. I had a new car itch few months ago. Test drove few Acuras, 3-series BMWs. At the end, I just wasn't ready to let go of my TL.
Keep the TL. Change the rims. A

At this point, my goal is to drive it another 8 years (at least) and just go on vacations more often. The 06 TL with the few accessories is still a head turner.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I'm going to hold on to the TL, but do some upgrades. I need new tires and the previous owner curbed the edges of two rims, so I'm probably going to upgrade to something better.

2012 seems to be the year that Acura is going to make some major changes in the TL right? I keep seeing mention of the MMC, etc but I haven't done much research on it.

There is no way I would trade out of a car into an 2010 or 2011 TL when there are strong rumors the 2012 will be here sooner than later. If your current car is fine, wait 6 months and see what Acura does then decide. The rumoured 6 speed Auto is good enough reason to wait.

you have really low miles, i would consider waiting for the 5g tl since the 3g tl you have is still a really nice & young car

^ exactly what I was going to say. With a car in that good condition, you could have it for much longer than another year or two.

Besides, there's a certain respect for owners of older cars in good condition.
