What makes the trunk pop up on release?
What actually makes the trunk pop up on remote release or push of the trunk button - is it the Left/Right Trunk Springs ?
Long story short, bodyshop fixed my rear after I was hit last year, trunk does not pop up, is it safe to say they missed putting the springs back in or what?

There is a single coil "spring" right behind the arc that holds the trunk. Perhaps they forgot to engage that spring. You will have to remove the inner lining to get to it.

Item 13 in the Image is your trunk spring. Its a two piece spring. They are a pain to tension and install properly once removed. I know because I just got done repairing my '13 TL that had rear damage. They layout left to right just like in the diagram, right underneath the speaker panel. You gotta remove the liner first to be able to see it. To tighten the springs, while the trunk is all the way open you will have to place one end into the trunk hinge (has a hole towards the top) then with the channels holding on the the edge of it you give it about half a revolution and push it up and into the clip right above the other hinge. other side is the same. Hope this is kinda clear. Sorry tried my best, if anything lemme know I can try to get some pics.
Here's the link to the parts page with the image as well
