I know I was. I waited and waited and waited for the 09 TL to come out...hoping and praying it would be some bad ass looking, 6 speed manual, AWD dream car.
What they have come up with IMHO, is an ugly, 5 speed AUTOMATIC :theghey:, underpowered, no advanced technology POS
Is it a decent car on its own merit ? Maybe....but when you put out something GREAT like the 3G TL and then follow it up with something that is sub par in every way its hard for anyone who dreamed of trading in their 3G TL to be anything but disappointed. Its like going from a young Brigitte Nielsen to the Current Brigitte Nielson.....horrendous.
FU Acura....I mean really...FU.

Ugly, okay that's subjective and many can make that argument. However, the 09 TL (especially the SH-AWD) bests the current generation TL in every facet when it comes to technology and drive train. The 5 speed automatic is pedestrian compared to the competition but a 6 speed manual is coming out after the initial launch. I have an 05 TL and love it. I don't see me trading it in for an 09 but then again I was not planning on trading it in for any of the competing brands. I plan to keep it for another 4-5 years.

Hilarious Brigitte Nielson reference...wow, she was hot in Rocky IV.
But, I think this post might be more pertinent to those leasing a 3G TL. If you own a 3G, the 4G gives you a reason to keep your current ride! Peace of mind is a great thing.
But, let's wait until we see the 4G in the flesh. Some of us might change our minds...me included.

Not sure changing my mind is much of a possibility, looking at the videos, the pics and comparing them to the current gen TSX, their new designs and my taste in automobiles are not even remotely close. Sad really (for me) I have only owned (purchased or leased) Acura automobiles...

I've got about 105k on my '04 TL but I won't be getting a new car for another year or two (knock on wood). I had my eyes set on the 4G TL, but after having seen the styling, I just can't see myself in the car. If it weren't for their crappy reliability, there'd be no doubt I'd be buying an Audi A5 - simply beautiful car. As it is, I may be looking at a G37. Which is ironic, because I had my eyes set on buying a G35 for months back in 2004 and had my mind instantly changed when I saw a spyshot of an '04 Acura TL.

I was going to start a poll along the same lines....but yeah, I was planning to for '10 model. Now, I am not so sure. Infiniti it looking mighty attractive. If they can pull off decent gas mileage with their G37, I may be there.

I am jumping ship as well
Although, I don't post much, I am and will always be a die hard Acura fan. I have had 4 Acuras. An 97 CL, 04 TSX, 05 TL and currently drive an
07 TL-S.
However, I am jumping ship this generation. I can't believe what Acura has done with their designs. A Complete Joke. I remember when I used to get excited to go to the Acura dealership to check out their new cars. They have NOTHING exciting or even remotely worth checking out for me anymore.
What's even more embaressing is that Infiniti has even supassed them now in prestige and style.
My next car will probably be a Lexus or Infiniti.
I hope Acura gets it's act together.
07 TL-S.

If I were to replace my 3G for a similar car it would probably be a G37 sedan.

Before I bought my 07 TL-S, I didn't keep a new car for more than a year or so; kept "upgrading". I bought my TL with the intent to keep it for a long time. Then, I started to read about how the 4G would have AWD, etc. At one point, I was ready to just say F it and trade it in for a 4G, assuming I liked it.
Well, thankfully [for my bank account], Acura had a bunch of monkeys and clowns design the 4G, so there's no chance of me buying one. I've seen the pictures, and I've seen the videos - it's awful. Seeing it in person isn't going to change my opinion, either. If it looks like total shit in the pictures and videos, it's going to look like shit in person.
If I ever sold my TL, I don't know what I'd go to next. A lot of people on this forum like the new G37's, but I don't. The exterior looks too "soft" for me, and the interior is even worse. Again, all my opinion. That being said, I think I'll be sticking with my TL-S, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Its too bad...
I too have owned nothing but Acura/Honda the past 15 years
04 TL, 01 CL, 99 civic, 93 CRX SI...
Now that must all come to an end. It does seem every other car out there though is missing "something" ...I like the IS250 but its too slow. IS350 is quick but no manual. I dont like the infinity interior...
The Accord Sedan is nice...it almost looks like the 3G TL ..but its a chromosome off from being as cool as the 3G. Think Patrick Swayzes brother when u think of the current accord sedan...
http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m3/ma...2EA43FE448.jpg
The accord coupe is HOT. But I dont want a coupe...too bad they didnt make the Sedan this sexy.
The AUDI A5 does look really nice but the reliability continues to be a problem and it seems that will never change. I hope to keep my 04 TL until SOMETHING comes out I love. By the way if the TSX ever comes out with the rumored Turbo AWD version I would strongly consider...but thats about it.

The lease on my 08/Navi is in effect till 2011. As my mileage is usually low at lease end (only 22k on my 04) my intent is to buy the 08 providing nothing terrible happens to it. The only way I could conceivably see myself in a 4g would be if they offered me the same payment on a fully-loaded (SH-AWD) or they make some significant changes (especially to the grille) by that time. If not and I do decide to trade, it looks like I'll be headed to Lexus or Infiniti.

I was actually waiting for the new TL to trade our 05 Base in which is getting up there in miles. I just really don't care for the styling at all. I wouldn't be able to past the pointey rear.. Let's not even discuss the grille.
So, with that in mind, I headed for the Acura dealer a bit ealier than originally planned and go an awesome deal on a 2008 TL-S. Wonderful car, and easy on the eyes.
FWIW: The TSX is a nice looking car, just underpowered IMHO.
I'm hoping, for Acura's sake, the car looks better in the wild than it does in the pics. I still don't get the 5 speed AT. My 2G IS has a 6 speed AT and that came out in 06.

I was and am hoping I will like it more in person. I hated the tsx when I first saw pictures but really like it in person. If the tsx had a bit more power, i'd buy one.
At this point though, unless I do a 180 on the TL, I'll probably have to head somewhere else for my next car. My 05 TL is the first honda/acura product i've owned and it has been far and away the best car i've purchased....

I have a 07 TL-S and I willl NEVER EVER trade/sell this car. Other than the FWD and the shitty turning radius, I love this car. I plan on keeping it for a while even if I do buy a new car. The 4G is dissapointing and an embarrasment for Acura, I dont know what theyre thinking. They took their best selling car and took a crap on it. If i had to trade in, Id defenitly get a G37. My friends have them and theyre very good cars, in and out.

When I first saw the 3G on the road I didn't even know what it was. I found myself searching the road for this car because it was absolutely beautiful. The front lights, the rear, the sides, everything looked great. I sincerely told myself that I will have that car some day.
I just don't get that from the 4G TL.

Just my my October issue of Car and Driver and there is a short take on the new '09 TL. I have to say, the exterior is rather f-ugly. Have to wonder what Acura designers were thinking after having had so much success with the 3G version. My '04 isn't going anyway unless it is for a CTS-V, a 'Vette, or a Mustang. And since I'm still quite pleased with my '04 manual TL, that ain't about to happen any time soon.

I will have to shop around for deals with in that $40,000 price range before even considering a trade on the 09 TL. Yes the technology is nice but I want my exterior to just as nice. In this price range you do not just settle for a car because of its name but rather it's perks. To second guess whether you should have bought that car is just silly IMO when your paying on it for 4-6 yrs.

There is no way on God's green earth that I would get rid of my 3G Type S for a 4G TL. I just got my new Automotive magazine and even THEY are scratching their head about the exterior design !!! My dealership will be having an open house in October to welcome the new TL. I'm definitely going....to see how bad this thing looks in person.
I'm one that keeps their cars for a long time, so my 2007 Type S will fit this mold very well. I'm sorry, when I saw pictures of the 2009's, my first "gut feel" instinct said this car is NOT going to look better in person....sorry, no way. I'm not attracted to the exterior the way I was to the 3G exterior.
Then, with the non-touchscreen Nav System and the "U" shaped cutout in the armrest-I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way. If I didn't own a Type S and wanted one, I would be searching out an '07 or and '08 model.
The only thing that appeals to me about the 2009's is the keyless starter and real time weather.

In hindsight, Acura might have been better off adding the additional features of the 4G to a slightly updated looking 3G. IMO, the 3G really stood out in it's day and still does to a point. The 4G never will.

I was thinking about trading my 2008 for 2009 TL. Saw the pictures and I did not like them. Waiting to see in person to make final decision. If I do not get the 2009 TL, then I will get the 2009 RL.

It looks too much like an RL. The title of the new issue Car and Drive article of which I spoke is "As Always, Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, and so does ugly". Now all that follows is one man's opinion.. mine.
One of the really great things about the 3G TL is the fact that it looks great from every angle, and you can't make that statement about very many cars. You will probably find something that seems to be overdone or out of place or bulbulous or just plain forgettable. But with the 3G TL, you can approach the car from any angle with a smile on your face. The designs really hit a home run with the car. It looks trim and lithe and sporty and distinct. It has a subtle elegance and purpose about it and it makes you really feel good driving it and being seen in it because it "fits". To this day, I still turn around and admire my '04 TL after having parked it. Mine and my wife's '05.
So Acura has lost me as a future customer. Their "new" TL looks too cookie-cutter to me. While it's a shame in one respect, I'm sure that when the time comes for me to let my '04 manual TL go, there will be something else out there to please my driving senses.

I don't love the new TL design, but I like it enough to buy it. After some thought I think the TL needs 18" wheels standard, 19" on the sh-awd. The grill is still odd to me.
For those that hate it and want German, not Japanese check out the new Passat CC, its got very clean styling. Although I bet it will top out over the TL comparably equipped.

I was a non-Acura owner and waited for some pictures of 09' before I purchased to make sure I wouldn't end up with buyers regret when the new model came out. After I saw the pics, I bought an 08' TL-S. No regrets. This is my first Acura, and so far I love the car, but it will be my last unless they do a complete redesign of the 4G.

2008 NBP TL
Never
I own a 2008 TL, and couldn't be happier. I would never trade it in on a 4G. If I totaled my 3G I wouldn't get a 4G either. The 4G is crap. I will keep my 3G until the wheels fall off.
#39
I would have probably traded for a 4G TL but traded my '04 TL for a '08 MDX last December.
It seems a lot of people are looking at the G37 as a replacement. To me, the G37 sedan is kind of tacky with that chrome spoiler. Personal opinion...
I know the 4G TL isn't all that..but I need to see this thing up close and personal.

I'm a longtime Acura guy too. I'm on my 6th Acura (3rd TL and 2nd 3G TL). I LOVE the current 3G design. The 4G - terrible. As has been said - it looks like other cars, has a buck tooth, etc. the back end is round the front end is more squarish - just does not work. And as was mentioned above - what is with the U-Cut arm rest. That is pure tacky and I can see the little 'U' sections breaking off fairly easily.
As much as I love Acura and love upgrading to a new version every 2 years.... it looks like this is my last Acura
I'll be moving on to something else with a distinct look.
Cheers!
