Went to Buy New 2013 TL - Largest Acura Dealer Disappoints!!
Had a 2012 TL with 21,000 miles and wanted to upgrade to 2013.
Emailed largest Acura Dealer in US in Virginia for a quote and they sent me a quote for a Base TL .
Got this quote:
MSRP $36,800 SALE Price $31,490 plus sales tax, tags, and fees (you may qualify for an additional $1500 in Acura loyalty/conquest cash if you have a current 2003 or newer Acura or other luxury brand registered in your household.)
AT first, looked like a much better price than my local dealer wanted, but then I asked them for a detailed breakdown of all Fees, ETC.
Got this:
Here is the out the door quote with your VT Sales tax included:
MSRP $36,800 Discounted Sale Price $31,490
Trade $24,000
VT Sales Tax $558.15
Title/Tags/Fees $1,604 (includes $200 tag fee, $10 online filing fee, $895 freight, $499 processing)
Total out the door $9,611.35 (-$1500 Acura loyalty for financing with Acura Financial) $8,11135
They lowballed my trade, they did not include freight in 1st quote, their $499 processing fee was way too much as was their tag fee.....
Bottom line,
my local dealers OTD price with all TAXES, FEES, etc. was $5900 vs $8,111 for the big dealer others here had recommended for great pricing.

^^did you even try and negotiate or did you really take the first offer? the processing fee should be $399 not 499, BTW.
so what was the quote breakdown of your local dealer?
i'll assume you're from VT since you quoted that state's tax rate. if you think some of the fees are too high then call them out on it based on the numbers you have from your own dealer.
honestly you need to show us both sets of numbers rather than bash on the dealer that gave you the quote you didn't like. you need to be asking for the OTD price and what the price of the car is going to be.

Agree. One of the surest ways to fall into the dealers' game when buying a car is negotiating all the sundry charges/items/trades piece by piece. Just ask for the OTD price. They'll get that you know what you are doing by asking for that price. Then you can compare apples to apples. Good luck with the purchase.

Why do you want to trade your 12' for a 13'? Wouldn't you be better off to wait until the 14' model since the base is supposed to get a bunch of new standard options that you'd normally have to buy the tech package for?

it's a car-drive it
if I read the OP original post correctly, the OTD price was asked then they asked for a breakdown on the cost. According to Pohanka Acura's website (yes I name it) the processing fee (which can be negotiated) is $499

nj2pa-so they upped the processing fee, used to be $399...
based on what the OP wrote, he asked for the price of the car, then the OTD with his trade (which according to edmund's is on par with current market pricing).
i wondered the same thing about trading a '12 for a '13. the other thing i wondered was the trade in price. you really expect a dealer that is hundreds of miles away to give you top dollar on your trade sight unseen?![Roll Eyes](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
you can save money by transferring your old tags to the new car based on whatever your state charges. this is assuming of course that VT does this for cars. i know in cali the tags unless they are vanity tags go with the car once sold. in VA, tags usually follow the owner unless the owner wants new tags. many times people just get new tags. you can save a small chunk of change by transferring the tags.
OP how much money were you thinking you were going to save? if it's a few hundred difference, it's not worth the effort. if we're talking thousands, then it's worth considering. and yes, i'm a client of the said dealer but i am in no way trying to defend nor justify their pricing. you have to determine for yourself how much you are happy and willing to pay along with the amount of effort you want to go through to obtain the car you seek.

Exactly what I was wondering also. Trade in your almost new car for essentially the same car?

I buy a new car every year and have had 72 new cars since 1968, so I learned long ago how to get the best deal.
BTW, negotiating downwards a $499 processing fee isn't going to save you much!! THe big money is had on what the discount is on the price of the new car and if you have a trade, how much will they give you.
The better dealers will do all their negotiations via email and then live up to it when you show up in person to pickup the new car, even if you have a trade-in.
If a dealer is going to low ball your trade-in, they'll do it in person as well as email, been there, done that!
Better dealers don't quote a low price on first contact, then when you ask for a detailed quote, they do not add back in freight to the price of the car! When was the last time you bought a new car without the MFG freight charge??
Why was I trading for a 2013 instead of waiting for 2014. Local dealer was discounting $5,000 off base price of car before other fees or trade-in as they were for 2013 MDX also.
Almost forgot, changed my mind and bought a 2014 RDX.
Happy motoring!!!!!

If you are the type that has to have a new car every year then, again, I have heard that buying is the worst way to go and that leasing is the answer.
But different strokes for different folks.

he still never addressed the questions and appears that he was already going to do whatever he was going to do.
so...what was the point of this thread other than to bash on a dealer that is hundreds of miles away from where he lives expecting to save a ton of money than buying locally? makes me doubt he would have even purchased from said VA dealer in the first place. apparently he has money to burn with a depreciating asset such as a car despite his bragging of finding a good deal on one and getting new ones every year.

People like this are making poor decisions when it comes to automobiles and are going to continue to do so. Giving any car $$$ advice to this OP is a waste of time.
A fool and his money...

Zorro, congrats on your new ride.
I've known people who get new cars every year too. That's what they like to do---so be it. It's your deal-To each his own. Nothing wrong with it.
Sorry about all the bashing too.

If the OP enjoys buying new cars every year I say more power to them. My parents saved and now a lot of that money will be going to NJ inheritance tax. I wish they spend more while they were alive. Enjoy what you like doing not what someone thinks you should or should not do. It is your money.
