valve cover seepage common on J series?
Hi,
took out the engine bay cover, and checked around, then found the dirty oil accumulation on a bolt next to the one of ignition coils, and some oil stain around in the back side where under the struct bar. I think it is the valve cover gasket seepage, not very serious, but the potential problem there.
car only has 60k and it is 2012 FWD. how common is the valve cover seepage on J series? and around 60k miles?
if I do not look for the repair, will it go serious? car is under Acura care, but somehow I do not trust the Acura dealer which is closer to me to do the work. they just are in hurry.
Thanks

I haven't had trouble with valve cover gasket leaks. I've removed the covers to do a valve adjustment and didn't replace the gasket () and it still doesn't leak. At least for now .
It's really nothing more than an inconvenience unless you start seeing a lot of fresh oil or you notice your oil level decreasing over a relatively short period of time. Otherwise, it's just a matter of spraying some engine cleaner now and then to clean it off. Or just use a shop rag. Is it the front or back bank that's leaking?

Hmmm, based upon the location it could also be a cam seal.

Assembly oil? After six years and 60,000 miles I'm thinking not likely. All things considered, if there is just a little residue below the cam/valve covers, I personally wouldn't worry about it; until you can see evidence of actual leakage (versus seepage) I'd leave the gaskets alone.

Agreed. Unless you're seeing the oil level drop, notice oil spots under the car or start smelling burning from oil getting on something hot like the pre-cats, I wouldn't worry about it.
