Tuning TSX-R Lenses.

I did a quick search on this topic but didn't find anything.

I recently swapped the OEM projector lens for the TSX-R lens. My beam pattern is not what I was expecting and I'm wondering if it's because I should've purchased a lens spacer kit.

Can someone take a look at the pic below and advise if that's likely what's causing it to look like this? Did everyone who upgraded to the TSX-R lenses also buy the spacer kit?

Yep, you need a spacer kit since the focal distance of the stock TL lens and the TSX-R lenses are different.

I also have a TSX-R lens swap and the retrofitter didn't put in the spacers, so I have a weird looking rainbow cut off too. Mine isn't as bad as yours, but I have a distinct yellow rainbow at the top.

Get the spacer kit, and make some extra spacers with some cereal box cardboard for fine tuning, and it'll get much better. I'm just waiting on warmer temps to fix mine lol.

mine came out fine with no spacer.... but you may want to put small little washers between where you mount the projector housing to the reflector bowl.. washers between the screws work..

the reason why i didnt put spacers between the projector and the projector holder is because there is no space.. it was super tight.. so i spaced it another way.

Damn, the last thing I wanted to do after just completing this is re-open the headlights. I should've done my due diligence before the install!

Thank you both!

You tried the ones from TRS and they didn't fit?

You guys ever have issues with condensation? My biggest fear in life is condensation in headlights, next to baking the headlights. Reason why I haven't done it yet.

Nah you can throw in some of those silica gel packets to help keep it dry in there.

I had an issue but did the hairdryer trick and it seems to have corrected it. That kinda confirms I sealed it correctly but had moisture trapped inside. Unfortunately I have to open them again to add the spacers as mentioned above

Someone on HIDplanet posted our cars now use a projector similar to the mazda CX9 and that they aren't very good compared to the older stanley units. Was the TSX-R lense the same diameter as the factory lense? What bulbs did you go with?

I definitely notice a nice difference after upgrading to these lenses, even without the clear cutoff. It's the same diameter (2.5") as OEM and I have 6k bulbs from HIDextra.com. I may end up putting the OEM back in though because I switched to 5k fogs and now they are slightly whiter than my 6k low beams.

I'm hoping to take the headlights apart again either this weekend or next. I'll get the lens spacers/washers in as well as the 194 plasma led's. I also want to clean everything really good again because I think the condensation left some residue. I'll probably test out the look of the OEM low beams with the fogs before putting it all back together again. Hopefully the second time is easier than the first!

I had Steven change the thread title so hopefully this can more easily help people in the future. If I can save one person from having to re-open their headlights then it's a success, haha!

What spacers did u use? I have a 2013 TL and I can't fit the round SPACERS that TRS provided. Due to the projector and how it holds the lens forward. Did u use a gasket of some sort ?

I used some washers that I picked up from the home depot after TRS recommended not to use the paper spacers they provide since they simply don't work for our projectors. I place 3 washers at each screw in between the shield and the lense holder. You need to test it to see if more or less washers are required, I used 3 at each scree but I think mine needs a little more spacing, my cut off line is sharp and colorful but it can be better. Another options you have are buying the Morimoto 4TL-R projectors that come with clear lenses from factory and a better projector bowl but they also require some spacing or the best you can do imho is installing a custom shield, I believe there is a member in the hid planet forum who makes them for 50 bucks for our vehicles, they will give you a razor sharp cut off line, day and night difference. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Ok so I did see the 4G-TL projectors that they sell but they look exactly the same as the ones that come oem spec. What is the advantages of having those and replacing them with my stock ones ? Are they already tuned for sharp cut off and flicker? Because I was going to possibly purchase them I just need to justify the hundred and some change cost if them before I do.

If you know what I will gain from those just let me know thanks in advance.

There is no really advantages or major gains you can get from these aftermarket projectors, but from factory they are bi-xenon and come with clear lenses already installed. I was ready to purchase them instead of buying the tsx-r lenses to avoid dealing with spacing and stuff, but the guy from TRS made clear that in order to get a sharp cutoff I needed to place some washers so I decided to take some more time. After some research I can tell you is best to do, contact member ImagioX1 from The Hid Planet forum or shot him an email imagioX1@outlook.com and ask him to make you custom cutoff shields, you will be super happy with the outcome.
Take a look in here. Hope it helps and let us know.
