Transfer case fluid recommendation....

all,
I just did my 3rd drain and fill ATF today to complete 3x3 method in 2 months time span and I've noticed the transfer case fluid was left untouched.
I'm thinking about changing it this coming weekend but need some opinion on what fluid i should use. The options listed below:
  • Mobil 1 75W-90
  • AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90
  • AMSOIL Synthetic 80W-90
The mobil 1 is easy to buy from any auto part stores.
The Amsoils need to be ordered and will take a couple days for shipping.
I used the Mobil 1 75W-90 before for my G35 coupe and happy with the result but Amsoil received high feed back from fellows in here.
Besides, is it a full quart required for drain and fill?
Thanks..

If you go Amsoil, they recommend the Severe Gear

Personally, while I like Amsoil, I went with Royal Purple which was also easily bought at most stores.

I used Redline synthetic 75w85 for my last change (which is the specified weight).
It's the only synthetic I could find in this weight.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Did you guys feel any differences with either Royal Purple or Amsoils compare to OEM??

So one issue is there really isn't an OEM replacement 75w90 fluid to use! Asked my dealership and used my internet skills - doesn't exist.

I didn't notice much of a difference between the two fluids, but I only had ~25k miles on the car when I did it.

The OEM fluid for the transfer assembly is Acura or Honda HGO-1 Hypoid Gear Oil GL-5 75W-85.

Acura P/N: 08200-9014A
Honda P/N: 08200-9014

If there is no differences then I can use Mobil 1 75W-90 instead of the others.
From my understanding, transfer case is supposed to transfers power from the transmission to the axles by means of the drive shaft. Replace the OEM fluid with Amsoils synthetic will help smoother the process, hence the car will feel less sluggish when accelerating...Unless there isn't any significant different between OEM fluid and Amsoils then the sluggish condition still exist regardless of what fluid I use... please correct me if I'm wrong...

Nice!

I asked my dealer and they didn't stock anything, I also looked at Bernardi which doesn't list that fluid either.

If you notice a difference in driving after any kind of fluid change, other than perhaps the auto trans, you either had a problem brewing or you're having a problem brewing. You might get a very slight change in fuel mileage but it would be so small it could only be measured in a controlled type laboratory environment.

Just make sure you get the correct kind. Some gear oil is corrosive to yellow metals from what I read.

I personally used Mobil 1 for the T-Case, Acura dual pump for the Diff, and Acura MT fluid (6MT) for the trans. Waited 1 week, then did it again with an oil change. I also had 55k miles on it when I did this.

Thanks for the confirmation. I hope i won't notice anything after changing the fluid.

I will try Mobil 1 75W-90 for now. My car only has 45k miles on it.

That Bernardi Acura link does not show it, so you have to search for the part number.

This Bernardi Honda link under Chemicals/Fluids -> Fluids shows it.

08200-9014 | Honda HGO-1 Hypoid Gear Oil - Bernardi Parts

Usually the Honda branded fluid is cheaper, but in this case the Acura branded fluid is cheaper. $13.76 (Acura) vs. $14.91 (Honda).

Or for acurapartsforless.com

In general for this fluid, you have to search for the part number on these sites.
