Trading in 2012 TSX for a TL... Help!

Hey Everyone-
Just purchased a 2012 TSX Tech a few months ago and it is just to damn small. I am transporting my kids more than I thought I would.

So here is the issue. Wife is upside down in the TSX so now I have to buy a used TL Tech. What year should I get? I see a lot of 2009 Tech's with low miles and they are tempting but should I shoot for a 2010 or 2011?

I will only buy Acura Certified.

Your thoughts and feedback are appreciated.

T

Personally, I never buy the first model year of a car. I give it a year to get the "new car" bugs worked out. Using that logice, I would start with a 2010.

Sorry the TSX didnt work out for you. The TL is great and you will really enjoy owning one.
I have seen 2009's going for $24-$26k if price is an issue just look for a 09.
the 09'-11' TL is pretty much the same car.

i would find a way to make the tsx work....if your upside down in it, your only going to be worse off in a trade for an older car....

I wish my TSX would work but with a 9yr old and a 2yr old, it's tough. I noticed in this years Consumer Reports it lists the 09' TL Tech as Recommended with the only issue being the audio.

Have you test drive the TL and see if it has enough space for your kids? Personally I think you should move up to a SUV if space is a concern. The TL is bigger than TSX but I don't think it will make a difference. How about a RDX or something similar?

How much upside down are you? I did this same thing for the same reason's but I have a 2 year old and a new 1 due the first of the year. I had 2 cars roll into my 2012 TL, and my payment only went up $30. I could answer a lot of questions that you have just ask

I don't think the TL would be my first choice for transporting young children. I know how quickly crap can accumulate in the back seat. Not to mention the trunk space in the TL is terrible. Once you start talking moving kids toys and strollers, etc you'll be wishing for something bigger. RDX or MDX for my money - the MDX is amazing, as close to feeling like you're driving a sedan as you can get

I agree with other posts here. I'd strongly consider looking at an MDX or RDX if you are looking to transport kids and stuff. We have kids and an 09 TL and an 04 MDX and believe me the MDX is much better.

agree with people that you should just get an SUV.

not sure i'd get an MDX though. My wife wanted one for our 2 kids until she saw how much functional space it lacks compared to a Pilot. No-brainer there and a decked out Pilot saved me $15k over what a MDX would have cost me.

regardless, you aren't gonna see much more space in a TL than a TSX. I had a loaner 2012 TL that I took both kids in for a weekend trip and that car was packed pretty full.

I'm 6' and the back seat of the TSX isn't that bad. How can you have trouble with a 9 year old and a 2 year old?!?!? (Car seat?)

There is a 4 Cubic foot difference in the two cars. Is it really worth the hit for 4 CF- especially if you are upside down. You don't indicate how many kids, but the TSX should be fine for two kids in the back seat. It has similar dimensions as my 3G and I had no problems.

The TSX is a pretty efficient car for outer size .vs. interior volume. What about the trunk? That is clearly better size wise. Get a used RDX, CRV, or Ody if you need more size.

Exactly... I recently had a TSX for a loaner and we took a road trip with 3 adults and 2 children with no complaints at all. I say keep the TSX.

We own a 2012 TL Tech and a 2012 MDX Tech. In my opinion, the TL is not a family vehicle. It is pretty tight inside. Nice sports sedan- absolutely. Alternative to a Camry- no way. It is also very low to the ground. Even a Corolla looks massive as you drive by. There are incredible end of model year deals on the MDX. The only real advantage on the TL is gas mileage, as least as far as being a family hauler is concerned. Heck, if you insist on a Honda sedan, you really should look at the remaining 2012 Accords. Huge back seat, decent trunk. Great deals with the brand new 2013's arriving.
