Thoughts on my 2009 TL after two weeks

I traded in my ‘06 TL for a black ’09 TL (without the tech package). I’ve had it for two weeks now and here are my thoughts:

THINGS I LIKE

1. The larger body size and higher seating position
2. The new cabin, which is much, much more luxurious than the 3G TL
3. The creamy smooth ride
4. Automatic Headlights (finally)
5. iPod Integration
6. Calls in progress now automatically transfer to the HFL without having to stop and say “transfer”
7. Dolby Pro Logic II works with my iPod and regular CDs. Although DVD-Audio is superior, I hardly ever used it because it’s such a hassle to find/make a DVD-audio disc.
8. The new seats are light-years better and more comfortable
9. RDS metatext on the radio (finally)

THINGS I DISLIKE OR MISS

1. The user interface of the non-nav audio system sucks. It looks and behaves like a cheap digital watch. It doesn’t match the upscale quality of everything else in the cabin. I miss the cool blue background lighting of my ’06.
2. Still no rain-sensing wipers
3. The middle armrest no longer slides forward to rest my arm on (nitpicking I know)
4. The glove box now has a shelf in it which makes it almost useless for storing anything but the manual.
5. The standard rims are too bland and conservative for the new body design.
6. The exterior design looks a little too similar to the new TSX
7. The Ford Focus has a better Bluetooth system and the new Audi A4 has those dazzling LED headlights (Out-of-bounds I know, but it’s what I think about as a TL owner.)

Overall I’m very happy. Despite the many complaints I’ve read about the new design, I get nothing but compliments and double-takes everywhere I go. People particularly like the muscular stance of the car from the rear view.

Just my two cents

OK, I don't believe anything that you have said so far... unless you show us some pics!!! :-)

Congratulations on your new car! It must be so exciting! IMHO it's a gorgeous car...

BTW, since you had a 3G TL, do you notice any significant improvement in the performance?

blackthought,

It's nice to see that the "good" list outweighs the bad.

Amazing. When at the dealership looking at the Navi Screen, I thought it looked a little cheap, unoriginal and dated too! Large bold fonts, lack of depth with borders, and poor color scheme. However I thought to myself, I'm watching the road 75% of the time, so it's no big deal, but I'm glad to see a owner actually mention it now!

I agree with blackthought, I have a TL for about 3 week, 2000 miles, and I love it. I got the polished metallic, the grille blends in rather well with the grayish color.

Oooh! That PMM is my favorite color for the new TL (along the Grigio color!). I totally agree that it blends in very well with the grille. The silver color does too, but the PMM is a more interesting color, IMHO. Have you posted any pic yet? I would love to see them!

These two confused me...our 2006 MDX has rain-sensing wipers yet Acura didn't put them on the 2009 TL? Also, when a call comes in on our cell phone, it automatically goes to HFL and starts ringing...you used to have to say "transfer"? I haven't sync'ed up our 2008 TSX, man I hope I don't have to say "transfer"...that would be quite annoying...

I got the impression blackthought was talking about having to say "transfer" if you were walking across the parking lot talking on your cell, then get in your car?
Never have been in that scenario, so don't know if a transfer can take place or not

cost savings --- the rain sensing wipers are expensive. I dont think the new MDX has them either

Rain-sensing wipers are no big deal. My last 2 cars had them and they both didn't work very well.......esp. when it rains at different intensities within a short period of time......the sensors get confused and the wipers will act crazy. I actually prefer the regular interval wipers now.

I had a 05 MDX and I much prefered the rain sensing wipers to my 04 TL interval wipers

I don't have an Acura , but my rain sensing wipers work beautifully and haven't " Gone crazy " yet and it also adjusts to different intensities of rain almost immediately . Although there is always that tendency to want to reach over and turn up the speed of the wipers manually ( due to lack of trust of electronics ) , there has not yet been a moment where I've actually had to .

Oh and to the OP , the interior of the 09 TL in my opinion is just beautiful . Enjoy the car !

No Acura since those MDXs has had rain sensing wipers. Maybe Acura didn't like them?

The transfer feature allows you to move a call from the handset to the HFL while in a call. It also works the other way if you're in a call on HFL and you want to leave the car without ending the call. Hit the 'talk' button and say 'transfer' and you can continue the conversation and turn off the car.
