Thoughts on 2010 TL SH-AWD Tech with auto trans

To start with, I hate the whole car buying process. Negotiating is not something I enjoy.

I've been emailing the internet manager at a local dealer. They have the car in the external and internal color I'm looking for. First he said they sell at list and I said thanks, but I don't think so. I offered $40,800 back and that was accepted right away. That's about $1,000 over invoice. Now I'm thinking I started too high. Straight cash, no trade in. Thoughts would be appreciated. Like I said I'm so bad at this stuff.

LOL, that was easy. j/k
If the dealer accepted it that easy, that means you can obviously go lower than that.
Try a few more dealers around before pulling the trigger on this one. I'm sure you can knock off a few hundreds more.
Good luck!

Well, I went in, test drove the car and pulled the trigger. No fooling around for me. I tried emailing a few dealers for quotes and didn't get anything lower than this. I'm sure if I were a better negotiator I could have probably gotten a better deal, but circumstances had me in a rush, got an offer I could live with and am glad it's over. I'll pick it up on Monday. Grigio/Taupe. Hopefully after 25 years driving manual transmissions I won't get too bored with the automatic.

did you even test drive the 6MT? You will get bored driving the Auto IMO. I would test drive a 6MT before making a decision on picking up the Auto. Just my 2 cents. The difference between the 2 is hugeeeee

I didn't test drive the 6MT. I knew that if I did it would have been too tempting to buy that. I haven't driven an automatic in many years and I could tell that it really isn't the same. Unfortunately there may be times when someone else will need to drive this car and they don't drive a car with a manual transmission and have no desire to. Some battles you know you aren't going to win. I guess if I get too bored with the automatic, it'll be the perfect excuse to go out and buy myself a toy.

I'm working with Bernardi.

Check out carbuyingtips.com -- they offer a spreadsheet that you can use to figure out what you should offer for your car. They'll encourage you to pay $35 at fightingchance.com to get the skinny on dealer holdback, factory-to-dealer incentives, etc. I used the site when I bought my 2009 TL SH-AWD / Tech and the $35 was worth it since I paid $2500 UNDER invoice (that's nearly $6000 below sticker)... granted that was back in June when they offered $2000 factory-to-dealer. Get informed... then you can explain with confidence why the dealer should take your price, and they can't really contest it. I've bought 3 cars this way over 8 years and I got my price EVERY time, the first time.

I just found a post on the forum under the sign-in thread. I liked the price and contacted the dealer. He replied back $1k over the posted price on the thread and told me the last 3 cars he sold was for that price. I asked him how about that price that was posted in the thread. He told me to send him the post, so I did and he said if that's an offer, he'll accept it. Couldn't get the exact color I wanted, but got the price I wanted. Just had to pay for $400 for shipping (600miles). 09 TL tech $32990.

Good luck
