Thinking of trading my G35x

I have an 07 Infiniti G35x with all of the options and packages.

Simply put, I love how it drives and how hard it pulls but sometimes over the bumpy roads I encounter, it might be a little to harsh on my tush...

Thinking about trading...and heading home 200 miles away to try out an Acura TL. Do you guys think it is worth it getting 2011/2012 over a used 2009/2010?

Before I make the trip, does the TL SH-AWD have a smoother ride while retaining the same sportiness? I have never gotten stuck in the G35x because of the amazing AWD system - how is SH-AWD in snow compared to the G35x's with all seasons?

Your not going to get rid of the harshness here to be honest with you. The TL is still pretty harsh but actually i personally like it this way. You have to try out for yourself but just giving you a heads up that its still pretty harsh if you get SH-AWD. 2012 version might be more refined. Good luck.

It's hard to say how you may perceive the SH-AWD's ride. I like it and would describe it as firm. I think a lot of it depends on what sort of ride you are used to in your previous cars.

The SH-AWD system works great in rain and snow, but in my mind, where it really shines is on dry roads - think your favorite twisty country road or a high speed, sweeping entrance ramp, perhaps with off-cambers. It will put a smile on your face every time.

Most people who have driven both say that the SH's ride is harsher than the FWD. That being said, I would drive both and make your own determination. You may not want to go to FWD if you are used to and really need AWD but if you can live with it the ride will be smoother.

The 09',10',11', TL's are basically the same car. Acura did the mid model change for the 2012 TL. Other than the grill, the changes were very subtle, acura toned down the aggresive looks a bit. How about a low milage used 2012? Are you looking at buying or leasing? If you buy a TL the shawd is lots of fun!

I have a 2010 Type SH and driven many G35-G37s for an extended period of time. Major differences between the two that I've noticed:

1) Type SHs do have a harsher ride than the FWD. However compared to the Gs I don't think you're getting anything better or worse. A lot of the G's harshness comes from the OEM Bridgestones. My sister currently has a 2010 G37S and she swapped the OEM tires out with some Yokohama Avid EnVigors and they made a world of difference. Handling however went down, but then it's a give and take with tires.

2) The Acura feels bigger than it looks when you drive it and the G smaller.

3) The Acura has the better interior and seats. If you like a seat with good bolster support then the TL wins hands down.

Honestly if comfort is your biggest need here then I don't think the TL is that much better than what you got. At this price point ($45k-$55k), with AWD, new not preown, and a 4dr sedan I would probably look at a BMW 535i x, M37x, or an A6.

OP, you'll finally stop getting those "douchebag" looks.

njsimons, there is nothing "harsh" about the TL's ride. It is firm, but not jarring. Rice Boy racer, it is not.

Honestly I don't think either car looks ricer boy racer at all. Both look pretty upscale. I don't do visual mods at all (just performance ones) to avoid looking ricer.

^Excellent. There are still a few of us around here who know what to spend our hard earned money on.

(No thanks, a staggered 20" wheel and tire package is not for me).

I have a sister who has owned two G's. She currently owns an 07 as well. I have driven her 05 and the 07 and I still think my TL-SHAWD has a better ride than the G. The G's are way to harsh on the road IMO.
Also I would not buy an 09 (first year). I would buy a 10 or 11 because I like the edgier look over the 12.

I have just changed my g37X 2009 for a 2012 TL SHAWD

For the harshness of suspension it's almost the same. Although may be acura has a quieter interior so the exterior mecanics sounds are more filtered

For the AWD , i live in montreal, so it's easy to compare. ACura has a better AWD system, it was too easy to slide with the g37X, fun but not safe.

The steering wheel is tighter on the G, feel lighter on the TL

Sigh...Called the dealer I was going to go test drive at to set up an appointment. The guy on the phone asked for some info. He asked where I am coming from and I told him from my university and I'm 19. I got hung up on...

I guess no Acura for me ;(. The next closest one is another 100 miles away. I am not driving that far.

Don't want to be dramatic but is age really that much of a concern anymore?!

Not too many 19 year olds have more than a part time job at minimum wage.

Doesn't your profile say you are 24?

Maybe you should have explained yourself by saying "oh yeah my daddy has money".

I personally had a 07 G35X and traded it in once I got behind the wheel of my current 12 TL Advance. The SH-AWD outperforms my old G's by a mile. The wider grip of the TL hugs turns whereas the G allowed for a lot of body-roll. In snow conditions I believe the G handled better. Overall both cars comes with the crappy EAGLE RS-A. Replace them ASAP.

I joined years ago when I was not old enough according to the registration I think. Either that or I did not use my real birthday.
