Thinking of Leasing 2011 AWD TL

Hi guys...new to the forum, though I've read a lot before I signed up. I've been working some numbers with my local dealer. Curious to get some feedback on a possible lease for a 2011 AWD TL.

Basically I'm putting 1500 down which will include first months payment, taxes, title, registration, the whole works. Leasing the car for 36 months with 15k miles a year for a total of 45k miles. They are telling me my monthly payments will be $531.17 for 36 months. Based on what I'm seeing this is not a bad deal, but wanted to get input from guys here and if I can work this down a little better. $525 a month would be nice, or $1k down. I've got all the numbers in front of me. Selling price on the car is $39,392.

Thanks for any advice and feedback guys.

I just replied to your post in another thread but are those monthly payments before or after tax? And what is the tax rate in your area?

I had a final price of $38,900 with $2k down, $520/month (incl. 6% tax) and 12k miles a year. I'd definitely try to work the car price down and you could probably get that payment to stay with $0 down or under $500/month with the $1.5k down.

Hi and thanks for your reply. The monthly price is with tax. The local tax in my area is 6%.

Seems like based on Truecar I could get the selling price for 38,582, yet my dealer $39,392.

Which do you think is more likely to happen? Putting $0 down and keeping payment at $531 a month, or go ahead and put the $1500 down and get payments lower than what I am at now. If I do put the $1500 down, any idea what I should really be looking at on a monthly payment?

Thanks again!

Your area seems to sell the TL for a little higher than most but I'm sure you should be able to get it for the mid $38k range at most. Either of the two options are possible (neither are more likely). They're not going to cut you a better deal for putting money down on a lease. Ideally, you want to try to lease without putting money down because let's say you put $3k down and end up totaling the car two months later. GAP will cover the difference from what your insurance company will pay for the car but that $3k is gone.

It sounds like you're getting a better leasing deal than I got. I was quoted with a residual of $23,894 and a .00143 money factor, which is like a 58% residual and 3.4% interest, which isn't too bad. I'd just keep working them on that price. Call all the dealers around your area and find ones that are willing to work with you.

A few dealers I talked too couldn't even come close to getting the leasing deal I got. Some even said it wasn't possible and I was being lied too (blah blah blah), so I really don't know how they figure it all out. I thought they all went through Honda Financial so the numbers would be roughly the same, but apparently not.

Excellent points. Well I'd be willing to put 1k down since it will basically be my first months payment, taxes, title and etc. So if I could get them to let me put 1k down and my payments to say $515-520 a month, do you think that would be a good deal?

One other thing, I'm going to call the three dealerships that have the lowest price in my area, well 90 miles away or so, and see what they can do. If they can beat my local Acura dealership, I have no problem driving 90-100 mins away to get the car and better deal. I've got two Acura dealers in my area. I got the $531 quote from the same dealership I leased my 08 TL Type-S which ends in April. I went to the other dealer across the city and said here is the deal I have from the other dealer and they said well we can't beat that as it's competitive. So that is why I am going to give the three dealers Truecar recommends on Monday and see what they say.

Yeah, I heard the same thing when I purchased mine. I tried six different dealers within a 200 mile radius and no one could beat or even match the price I had. I'd definitely make them an offer you're happy with, less $500 just incase they try to meet you half way. Make sure they understand you're not just window shopping and are 100% going to be picking up a new TL, just a matter of finding which dealer will work with you on a good price. If they refuse to go any lower, just give them a few days to think about your offer and there's a good chance they will probably call you back. Make sure they throw in some stuff for you too like the trunk tray and all weather floor mats for free.

Personally, I think $520 a month is a good deal on a 2011 TL SH-AWD. If you compare it to the other leasing specials going on, it's tough to beat. The Infiniti G37's have fairly good leasing options, starting at $369 a month with $2500 down. Once you add all your options though and only putting $1000 down, that will probably be much closer to $500+ a month. BMW has fairly decent leasing options as well with $0 down and around $550 a month for a "well equipped" 335i sedan. However, you do get free maintenance which is a great selling point.

Well guys I have an update. A dealership 80 miles away is willing to lease me the car with 15k miles a year for 36 months with 1k down which includes first month's payment, taxes, title, and registration. As for the monthly payment, they are down to $510 a month compared to the $531 at my local dealership.

So that's a saving's of over $1500 bucks. I've called my local dealer back to give up the latest quote to see if they can meet or beat that price. I'd say by this weekend I'll have a new AWD TL.

Well another interesting day. I go to my local dealer to pickup my forgotten garage door opener after test driving the TL over night last week. Local dealer says I talked to my boss and we'll meet the price of the dealership 90 miles away. So local dealer agrees to 1k down, 510 a month, and is throwing in the all weather floor mats.

Call dealership 90 miles away and say hey local guy is giving me same deal you are and throwing in the mats. I'd like to buy local plus I leased my last car hear. Says ok no problem. Then he calls me back and hour later says tell you what, we'll do 500 down instead of 1k, 510 a month as agreed and we'll do the all weather floor mats too. I'm like damn but don't tell him this...lol.

Called my local guy back again and gave him the latest deal. He says I'm done. I said are you sure cause last night you wouldn't match the guy 90 miles away and then today you said you would match him. He said no we are done, go ahead and buy from the guy 90 miles away.

So it's done. Car will be at the dealership on Thursday since they had to trade for the colors I wanted which is black exterior with taupe interior. Said they would change the oil, detail it, fill it up with gas, install all weather mats and I'm ready to go. Turn in my old lease drop off a check for $500 and my first payment is made already and I'm out the door with the new car with 15k miles a year. Plus they will rollover the existing 2500 miles on my old lease so I have a total of 47,500 miles for three years.

Don't think I'm going to do better than that for a new TL SH-AWD...lol.

Yes, congrats. Way to play the dealers against themselves. And BTW, welcome to the forum!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I did pick up the TL on Saturday with the $500 down and $510 a month. Dealer also threw in the all-weather floormats which was so nice cause we have a good bit of snow, salt, and all kinds of crap on the roads and parking lot.

I pulled into the dealership and they had it all nice and clean. I should have snapped a pic with my phone, but totally forgot about it. Now it's all dirty with road and salt grime all over it..lol. It will be nice when the warmer weather rolls around and I can give it a good hand wash and take some quality pics.

As for the first few days, I am impressed with the car. The handling is just insane. Quick speed and this car really gets up and goes. I'm really glad I decided to lease another Acura TL.
