"Sproing" Noise and thunk when releasing brake pedal?

Oh maestros of all that is TL...

My 2010 AWD has recently developed a strange "sproing" noise and a bit of a thunk when I release the brake pedal. It sounds like there is a bad spring in the pedal linkage, and when you completely remove your foot pressure from the pedal, it allows the spring to make noise.

The dealer is claiming that it's standard operating condition for the TL, when compared to other cars on the lot.

Does anyone else hear something similar when they release the pedal?

Thanks much,
Greg

Just a guess but it may have something to do with the "hill start assist" feature. Can't say I've heard that noise before though.

Mine does definitely not "sproing."

The thunk could be the hill start assist (letting go) but you would have to have the 6MT to get the hill start assist (I think??).

Have you poked around down by the pedals? You might find the spring that is "sproinging" and a bit of grease or oil could quiet it down.

I think your dealer is full of it.

Update on this story - things rapidly changed after this post, when I challenged them on the point.

Summary version is that dealer acknowledges that it's an issue, but they haven't been able to diagnose yet. Have tried a couple of different things without resolution. I'm in a loaner.

Other than the initial "missed diagnosis," the dealer has been quite good to work with.

The sense I get is that because it's a brake related issue, without going into details, they're taking this very seriously and I can't complain about responsiveness so far. Hopefully it's resolved quickly. I'll keep the group posted.
