SH-AWD - when does power go to rear?

SH-AWD - when does power go to rear?

I thought I read somewhere that under light acceleration power goes to front wheels only. My display shows that at any speed with even the lightest throttle there is power transfer to the rear. Is this what others are seeing?

under light acceleration , through the sh-awd gauge, i normally see 2 bars front 1 bars rear or 3 bars front 2 bars rear.

under most conditions, there will always be some power to the rear, i would say my observations would be that i am mostly 80/20 front/rear...when you really hammer it on a straight, its probably 60/40....

when you have zero input to the throttle, you have zero power to all 4 wheels...if you want sh awd, you need to have your foot on the gas....

Find a parking lot where you can do a tire chirping 360 degree turn a few times at speed and play with the throttle. You'll see it (and feel it) at work.

No doubt. My favourite moments in the TL are rainy days where I can turn of tc and get a huge drift going on the last sweeper! Couldn't do that in the S4.

  • For better fuel economy, up to 90% of the power is sent to the front wheels when cruising in a straight line.
  • As weight shifts to the rear of the TL during hard acceleration, the SH-AWD system transfers up to 45% of engine power to the rear wheels to take advantage of available rear-wheel traction.
  • In a curve under hard acceleration, 70% of torque can be directed to the rear—all of which can go to the outside wheel to improve cornering by directing power where weight has shifted.
