Service costs
Trying to figure out if i need to do a timing belt, valve adjustment on my 2009 TL with 110k miles. Acura dealership wants $1400 to do this.
Any suggestions on doing the service and whats a fair price to pay for this?

I'll be interested to hear what others have been quoted for this service.
What is your location OP?
I do not have any info myself other than same job on my Integra, but that's a very different can of worms.
I would have guessed at least $1200 off the top of my head. (?)

Not sure where the OP is located but if you search Hamilton Honda here on AZ there are several threads talking about TB Service Specials they have historically run and absolutely have serviced Acuras. If memory serves it was about $600 or $700 but again that was then......

As others have mentioned, you should definitely have that done at a Honda dealer over an Acura dealer. Same job but considerably less money at the Honda dealer. Barring a warranty item, I have all of my service work done at Honda.

A loaner car has significant value to me and I know Honda dealerships don't generally provide loaners. Given this, how long does it take to do the timing belt and will a Honda dealer be so much less expensive that it would outweigh the cost and time to rent a car?

Timing belt job and the other items you may want to get done at the same time will take most of a full day to complete.
$$ savings can absolutely offset car rental, but many dealers do have shuttles if that helps.

I have always had Honda service my TL if it wasn't included in warranty. Honda dealership near mean gives a deep discount if you need a rental through Enterprise. Depends on the service, they also offer free rental at Honda as well.

It wouldn't hurt to ask for a loaner, the worse they can say is no. I'm not sure if the water pump is covered in the service, but I would look into that also. I don't know if it's needed either though.

Water pump is not covered in replacing the timing belt but most opt to have it done while they are in there as you are already paying for the labor - no need to pay for it a second time when and if the pump does go. Preventative maintenance..............

So in that case I would have it done. I heard conflicting reports that some dealerships add the water pump in their timing belt replacement.

The water pump is normally included it the timing belt service because you have to get in and around it to replace the belt in most cases. Sometimes even removing it to get to the belt. So it is always grouped together.

While it certainly makes sense and I absolutely would opt to have it done, I just wouldn't assume that it is included in all TB jobs. You know how some stealerships operate.........
I found this link for the Hamilton Honda deal I mentioned above and it does in fact say on the coupon that it does include the water pump.

That was a special they were running at the time as I believe the dealership was relatively new at the time (2012/2013). Coupon says "Reg $789" but still way less than the $1400 you were quoted.

But please remember this was quite a while ago. I don't want folks flaming me for starting something that no longer exists

A local Honda dealership (Houston) periodically runs service specials. Last summer (2K13) they were advertising $799 for timing belt replacement. While you're that far torn down, be sure to put a new water pump on it.
