Re-leasing Questions

Just have a few questions about redoing my lease that will be up in July. Of course I got the call today about the great deals that they have going on. I told the sales guy on the phone I would like to get into a newer year model of course but did not want to put anything down since I slapped 5K down the frst time to keep the payments cheap. He figured it out and for another $29 a month I could get into a new TL, I would just have to put about $700 for the first payment and tax and license. My plan was originally to buy the car with a 5 year loan.

Do you guys think this is a good deal? My thoughts is that it is worth it simply because the TL would be covered for another 3 years with the warranty and everything.

Thanks for the help in advance.

P.S. Besides the body style changes any other real noticable change from an 09 to a 12?

Dizave...Besides the visual change, there is the 6 speed transmission which is very smooth, some noise insulation and a few other goodies. Being a lease, ever considered doing a MSD rather than a deposit to bring your payment down?

Ultimately it comes down to what you want to do and what type of impact it will have on you financially, if any. It also depends on what your total buyout is including tax vs how much the car is realistically worth.

You can use KBB private sale values as a starting point but of course most people want to deal down from there and then you should also look at what the car is going for on used lots in your area that are the most similar to yours, as far as mileage and condition.

If the car is actually worth buying then you should consider the monthly payment differences between leasing a new car and buying yours and how comfortable you are with them. I am sure buying out your car with a 5 year loan will be substantially cheaper each month than leasing a new one.

Also, if there is a decent amount of equity in your car you don't want to just go handing it over. Use it as a trade-in or buy and sell it later yourself but just be realsitic with establishing that, go worst case, not best case.

Even if the vehicle is not worth what the residual is, you might be able to bring that to the leasing company's attention and perhaps they will give you a break but it is not a garauntee. If you are set on buying it out, wait until the lease company contacts you about what you want to do first, tell them you would like to buy the car but don't feel it is worth the residual price. They might give you a better deal.

As far as an extended warrany, you can always add one but don't let them rip you off. They can usually be had for half the price they originally quote you.

OP, you need to talk to the F&I person at the dealership. S/He can run the numbers for you to see what is the best deal for you. In a few cases a lease can be a better deal even if you keep the car.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I went ahead and got a 2012 Graphite Base TL for the same payment I had so I feel good about my decison. Love the new beak on it too.
