I noticed this also, the day I bought it. I keep my sunglasses in the soft case they came in (Oakley bag or whatever its called). No more rattles.....from there at least.

I noticed that in my 2011. Like the other poster, I put mine in a soft case. Problem solved.

Wrap the glasses in the cleaning soft cloth before putting them inside the sunglasses holder.

Yeah, mine do to. Even though it's my wife's car, I keep my sunglasses in the holder. They drive me nuts. I realize I can either try a different set of glasses or wrap them, but honestly I just don't remember because I only drive the car once every week or two, and more often than not when I'm driving it I am wearing the sun glasses.

I had this incessant rattle and finally took it to the dealer to locate and fix it. And to my surprise, it was my sun glasses in the sunglass holder. So yes, just you guys have that issue too. Shifting the glasses around as under9hell suggested works for the most part.

I just noticed that a few days ago too...I found if I position my sunglasses a certain way, the rattle goes away.

I got a 2011 TL and I don't use the sunglass holder either due to the rattling. And while I certainly understand wrapping my glasses in the synthetic rag that comes with glasses these days, I don't do that--I just use the case that came with the glasses.
Because, like some other drivers apparently, any rattling drives me crazy!

I have the same rattle so I keep my sunglasses open on the shifter (automatic). Probably should just go pick up a new soft case. Glad I'm not the only one that has this annoying problem, thought I was going crazy for a while.

It's very annoying! I started putting them in the glove compartment.

I recently drove a TL loaner for about a week and the whole right side of the car rattles with the minimal road imperfection. I hope that was the case just for that particular car and that you guys are not having that kind of issues. I really like the 2012 TL, but this 2011 left a bad impression on me.

Also, I did not notice it before on other TLs I've driven, but this one also exhibited an erratic shifting behavior from the transmission.

Could be signs of abuse from other customers.

Does anyone know how to remove the sunglass holder because I would like to put additional foam padding on it and above it. I know it has two hinges on each side but not sure how they come apart and don't want to take a chance on breaking the plastic.

Make a quick stop to home depot and buy some foam, cut accordingly and place it in the sides and bottom of the sunglass holder.

As others have said, just keep them in the case or bag they came with and no rattle.

Or do what I did
Buy some kitchen drawer liner, cut it to fit the inside of the sunglass holder and tack it at a couple of spots with double sided tape and no more rattles.
