Question on a deal too good to be true?

hello all,

i got an offer for a 2010 acura TL AWD with tech for 35000K . The dealership is located in another state without sales tax, oregon. I live in seattle. I want to know what sort of steps i can take, i.e. docs from dealership, voicemail confirmation, etc.. to make sure that they won't do a switch a roo (spelling?) on me once i get to the dealership. It is about 400 miles away, and i don't want to go there for nothing. what i have currently is all communications in writing through emails. any thoughts? also , would it be better to buy the car and take back to WA to pay taxes or have the dealership collect the tax from me and they send it to the WA DMV ? thanks for any info.

That sounds like a great deal. I bought mine earlier this month for $36,700 with a few accessories. It's not too good to be true, it's close to the end of the year and they're wheelin' and dealin'! Ask them to fax you some paper work with the VIN and price they quoted you. Usually Acura dealers do not do the bait and switch, but you never know... some dealerships are run by high volume companies that own Kia, Hyundai, Honda, etc... and might use those sale tactics at their Acura dealership.

I believe you will pay taxes according to the county you register the car in. The dealership will collect the taxes in most situations.

You have to pay for tax according to the standards set by the county where this vehicle will be registered. But the price is reasonable at this time, only caveat is you might not have lots of choices for colors and it might be a slightly used demo car. you never know.

If you're considering an out-of-state purchase, you'll need to obtain the CO for the car and upon presentation of that document in the state where you plan to register, that's where you'll get hit with (in this case) Washington taxes - plus any other piggy-back taxes you may have to deal with if they exist.

I bought mine from Georgia (I'm in Texas). The dealer verified the tax rate in the county I live in and all taxes and fees were collected by the Georgia dealer. The only thing I needed to get was a safety sticker after testing emissions. Had I bought the car in Texas, the car would have come with a emissions/safety sticker valid for two years instead of my current one year emissions sticker.

That's a great price. As others suggested, I'd ask for paper work to verify VIN, mileage, etc. Most likely it's a demo with some miles on it, but still a nice price.

Where you pay taxes varies according to the law of the state where the sale is made. If the law in the state of the dealership requires payment there, that's what will happen. Otherwise, you'll pay when you title it in your home state. It won't be your choice.

Good luck.

Got the car and it is everything I had imagined and more. Took a little loss of 500 on the trade in but it would require me driving both cars back. It was too much hassle to arrange the logistics. The dealership is Kendall Acura in Eugene, OR. Ask for Paul Casey if u r looking to buy there and he would give u a very nice, comfortable, and honest buying experience. They still have a few 2010 tl on the lots but the Manuel was the only one. Tell Paul u heard from a friend in Seattle.

Yah, someone here got it right, state of WA calls this the use tax. The dealership collected the tax, this case it was 9.8 percent. Then I pick up my tabs and registration in the city where I live.

You made out great on the deal. Try 40 grand when I bought mine in Nov 2009. But I got the color combo I wanted and I never buy the first model year of a new design.

Ya did good!
