Question about trans fluid change

Hello all, Just did the timing belt on my 2013 TL this weekend along with changing the transmission fluid and the filter. My question is, the transmission fluid when I drained it have some "material" in it, that I saw on the bottom of the pan. I did not get a pic of it. But looked similar to what's stuck on the magnet. It wasn't a lot but when transferring the fluid from the pan to a container I noticed it at the end. Maybe 1/4 teaspoon worth max. Anything to be concerned about? I'm new to this whole automatic game.
Thanks

Hey there,

Sounds pretty normal. I notice a tiny bit of that material on the magnet each time, and I have been changing the trans fluid in my 2012 FWD every 8-10K since I acquired at 10K miles. I also change the filter every 25K. Both may be overkill, but at 95K miles, the transmission shifts flawlessly and I'd like to keep that trend going. Cheap insurance on such a pricey component.

Good luck!

Thanks, I was just curious about the small amount of material I found at the bottom of my drain pain. Probably about the same amount that was stuck to the magnet. It shifts fine, (well its my first automatic car since my 79 camaro back in 2000. ) So yeah I don't feel anything that would be out of the norm. Just curious, since were going on vacations up to NC from Florida in march. But I drive her 5 days a week about 35 miles for work and back and I love it. Just miss my 32mpgs I was getting with my civic. But Ill trade the mpgs for comfort.

Sounds pretty normal, but not sure if the vehicle has received regular trans fluid changes throughout it's life. I'd just keep changing the fluid/filter regularly.

As for the mpg, I can typically get around 28mpg on highway trips if I drive sensibly. Cruise control helps.

The comfort and overall drivability is where you forget about mpg, the TL was built for long drives. I still love mine after 8 years of ownership, truly an awesome vehicle.

Cheers!

Thanks, I know the fluid was changed at an Acura dealership at 60k. Nothing about the filter. I got the "gurgling" sound when I went around the corner from my house. I've only done the 1 drain, new filter and about 3.5 almost 4 quarts, and no more sounds and shifts good. The fluid I drained looked quite clean, From what I can tell the PO travelled from NY to Florida quite a bit. So, Im thinking its alot of highway miles on her.

Do you know if the transaxle fluid is drained at the same time the transmission fluid is changed? Just curious because when I spoke to a honda dealer they mentioned transmission and transaxle fluid change.

Can't chime in on that topic as I have the FWD variety TL. That being said, no harm in changing the trans axle fluid as well, especially if you are unsure of the past frequency. Frequent fluid changes are definitely not a bad idea. A quick search would help ascertain the recommended fluid change interval or another member with the AWD system could provide some insight.
