Question about Acura Motor Oil & such

Who makes Acura's motor oil?

Whats your favorite motor oil? (Amsoil, Mobil, Royal Purple ...etc)
Whats your favorite oil filter?

Mainly after the answer to the 1st question

Does it matter who makes it? I would not be surprised if they buy 55 gallon drums locally for the service area, as for the retail quarts, not sure.

I like Mobil 1 0W20
And I like Mobil 1 filter.

whats your real question?

it doesnt matter the brand of oil. or if synthetic or conventional oil, as most synthetic oil is a blend.

the important takeaway is to change your oil and filter on a regular basis according to the MID.

many people have ran conventional oil.
many people have ran synthetic oil.

many people use different kinds of filters.
many Honda dealerships use different kinds of oil.

just change it regularly according to the MID.
and you'll be good to go.

Honda/Acura oil = Conoco Philip

My favorite oil it usually whatever is synthetic and is on sale. I try to stick with Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra, Amsoil, etc.

^ THIS! For as long as I've been working on and driving cars, motor oil has always been a matter of personal opinion. There were those that swore by Quaker State, others by Pennzoil and all swore theirs were the best. Yet, under a microscope, both oils were very much the same.

Now, there is synth, synth blends and good oil petroleum based oils. All do the same basic thing, lubricate the internal parts of your engine. It's always a huge discussion about which is best. IMO, they are all good. I haven't seen a motor blow apart when regular oil has been used and maintained properly.

As Justn said, what matters most is changing it regularily!

What is the MID? (I'm not up yet on all the acronyms.) I assume you are referring to the display which indicates oil life. I am quite sceptical about the validity of the oil life calculation my car does (2010 fwd) and I plan to change my oil much more frequently than the display calls for.
When I got the car it said oil life 50%. I changed it anyway and it was disgusting, black and burnt. I just changed it again recently with the display saying 80% oil life. I do it myself of course so it's not expensive. No matter where you live in Canada or the States, I think you should change your oil at a minimum of twice a year and more than that if you put on a lot of miles (or kilometers) :-) .

Atf

Not to change the topic but I also change my transmission oil relatively frequently. (I know all about the oil in the converter and the oil in the pan etc.etc.) FYI, the exact same ATF is used in Hondas and Acuras but it's significantly cheaper at Honda.

yes, in previous years, the on board computer was/is called the MID. (multi-information display) or something like that.
it uses algorithms based off of start ups; engine revolutions(RPM's) and some other factors to calculate oil.
it does not analyze oil; so it does not know if its conventional or synthetic.

However; the color of the oil does NOT INDICATE trouble.
Because some oils have detergents in them and ARE MADE to turn color.
the composition of oil has COME A LONG WAY since of yesteryear oil.
the chemistry of the oil has made it possible to prolong oil change intervals. it's very common to see 7k-10k mile oil intervals.

you are wasting money by changing it out early.

Thanks for your advice.
