AT question

One dummy question here,
Putting the transmission into N during a downhill slope and let the car coast down, and switching back to D when the car reaches the bottom. Would this cause any damage to the transmission?

Thanks.

Some trannies don't receive proper lubrication in N, so the answer isn't foregone. Check your owners manual, it will contain this prohibition if it applies.

I don't think it would be bad, unless what Danny said applies.

Just out of curiosity here, cuz i noticed some of the times the transmission stays in a higher gear when going downhill, and it doesn't happen to my old EL.

It's the Grade Logic Control working to prevent the tranny from shifting into higher gears when going downhill.

It shouldn't hurt anything.

What you want to avoid is an old drag-race technique called a neutral drop.
(Putting it in neutral, revving it to redline and slamming it into gear).

Unless you're curious what the inside of your transmission looks like scattered on the road beneath you of course - then more power to you.
