Pricing and Decision Making Help

Hello All,

My 1st post here. I am moving up from a 97 Camry with 315k miles, bought it new in Oct 96.

I am trying to deicde between $26k 2010 tech awd 42k miles, $29k 2011 tech awd 30k, and $30k 2012 tech 27k. In terms of pricing, they all seems so close, well except for 2010. In terms of miles (I've converted to miles from KMs) they all seem so close too, well except for 2010. I need your help in deciding where to go?

2010: Like the price, not the KMs. Like the snow tires. Also don't like 5AT idea
2011: Like the fact that it is 2011 and not 2010. Dislike the color combination, don't like 5AT
2012: Like that it is 2012 and not 2011. Like 6AT. Don't like that it doesn't have AWD.

Budget tells me to settle for 2010. However, it makes sense to shoot for 2012 without the AWD, though settling for 2011 would get me AWD, but really don't like the color combination.

Based on the links above for each car ad, can anyone provide somewhat fair price for any of these as well as advise on which one to pick based on your experience.

Thank you so much for your help.

Regards.

Welcome to Acurazine and the vehicle you are considering (TL) is a great car, excluding a few little quirks but all cars have them.

Best advice is don't settle too much on your principle. You are doing a great job but doing your list of things you like and dislike. The difference between 2011 and 2010 is nil so except for being one year older, you shouldn't dislike the 2011 over the 2010. The 2012 is the MMC and has a different look, so you may prefer that over the 2009-2011 MY which some do, and some don't. Its purely subjective at this point.

As far as the tranny, the 5 speed auto has no major problem (compared the previous generation) so yes, the 6 speed will give you a better fuel efficiency (marginally) and a slightly better refined ride, I wouldn't let that concern me too much either.

As the the FWD vs AWD, I would think this is where you will see most people tell you to not compromise if you want the AWD because it is a blast to drive, not just in the winter/wet roads but also on dry surfaces (cornering). If the 2011 has a color comb you dislike, that will also drive you nuts.

Here is my advice...Keep looking and expand your search radius a bit more. Judging by your post, what you are looking for is a 2012 AWD Tech with ~30K miles and costing around 30 000$. I know you are in Canada so for the folks in the US posting here, please keep in mind that although the price seems high for the mileage, keep in mind hat our friend is in a Canadian market where our TLs go for alot more than yours....

BTW....Where in Canada do you live? I may have something you like

Thank you so much for great reply.

I loved the front grill on 2009-2011, and that is why I was considering it. However, when they came out with the new I, I like that even better. I think you nailed...it terms of 2012 Tech AWD. However, I was really hoping to spend 27K, as by the time I add taxes, it will be around 30K.

To find this year and trim level for even less than $30k will be almost impossible. Not to mention my Camry is asking for new shocks and tires.

Nonetheless, I am in Toronto area in Canada. I am willing to drive a bit to get a nice car. Please do let me know what you had in mind.

Thanks again for your help.

I wouldn't be adverse to buying in the states, as both my cars (Camry and Odyssey) came from the states. However, in TLs case, Acura won't honor warranty once I import the car to Canada. With all that tech, I would really like to keep the warranty and purchase in Canada and pay more then my American friends.

I would ask the following- are you going to drive the car aggressively enough to warrant the AWD? I know myself and how I drive. I'm not saying at all, the 4 wheel drive car won't handle great, but I know I wouldn't be using it to its full potential. I'm also a fan of the mid cycle refresh (the updated grille). With the choices you have, I'd get the 2012. I drove one when my car was in the shop, and it had more than adequate power, rode well, and handled well. I'd advise going to the local dealer and trying both the non AWD and AWD versions and see which one appeals to you more.
