Whenever I buy a car, I go for OTD price. Works out well for me. No matter what you do, do not fall for their "How much do you want to pay per month" crap.... you will end up paying more on the long run. I always give round it up to the nearest 100 of the asking price for the OTD.

For example, if the car price is 37850 bucks, I will offer them 37900 OTD, including all the fees, taxes, charges and what not. And will drive away with the new ride for 38000. Remember, almost all of the car dealers mark-up their cars by 10 - 20%. So offering them the asking price as OTD price is not unfair to them either, in case you feel bad for them, which most of us dont...

Again, TrueCar does not take into account now the available incentives. Check out Edmunds.com or Cars.com for the current incentives and then subtract it from Invoice and you should have your purchase price. For the Out the Door pricing, add state sales tax, Title & Registration fees and that's the max you should offer.

I will start with 39000 OTD, but will not pay anything above 40,000, OTD. Is this a Tech package with SH-AWD you are looking at? I would assume so because that is how much I paid for mine 2012 TL with Tech Package and AWD, with only about 22 miles on the Odo, back in October 2011. I bought mine from Radley Acura in VA though, if you are interested in driving all the way here for pickup...

The key is negotiation and willing to walk away. The more you are going to show them that you are desperately in love with the car, the harder it will be to negotiate. Just give them your OTD price and say, "This is my offer, if it suites you, perfect, lets to the deal, if not, no worries."

I'm being quoted 37,000 for a 2012 TECH ADVANCE. This price includes destination charges, but not tax, title, and license fees. It also does not include the dealer protection package which they try and force on you. I was thinking of pulling the trigger on this price - does it sound reasonable?
BTW, I am in the Southern California market (LA and Orange Counties).

That's super cheap. $35K OTD. In California, sales tax is 7.75% ~$2,500, license & processing adds another $700 so you got the 2012 TL w/Tech Package for $31,800 prior to tax, license and processing. That's unheard of. MSRP for this car in SoCal is $40,220 (incl. destination charge) with invoice of $37874.

I guess I got ripped off. I just got a 2012 TL w/Tech package for $34,383 plus tax, license, & fees.

Just purchased over the weekend a 2012 TL SH-AWD with tech and paid $33,760 plus md taxes,tags, fees and their stupid processing fees of $399 which I try to void but couldn't. Ohh btw vehicle only had 10k miles so it's used.

I wish I had seen mihink's purchase and the resulting posts of this thread before signing my purchase agreement on April 5th. I would've loved to drive out to NoVA and get the TL from Pohanka, as it seems like they have really good deals. On Friday evening, they had 4 new 6MTs. Tonight, they only have two left...

My next Acura will be purchased at Pohanka. =)

That's not the case, but if there is dealer cash on the table sure.

There really isn't much money on new cars, they make the money on the back end from your trade, extended warranties, financing, dealer cash, etc.

Some dealers will sell you a car at a slight loss just to move the unit in hopes you'll finance through their bank, buy some pain protection bullshit or put the "mini" ($150 or so commission to the salesperson) towards the monthly sales goal.

This is one of the few businesses I can think of where the invoice is posted which in most cases are what the dealer purchases the vehicle from the factory for. I wish it was the case when I buy a mattress or TV lol.

I don't understand why people post 'out the door' prices. Each state varies wildly with taxes/licensing fees/etc, and we don't know where everyone lives, so there could be a huge difference in the deals. For example..Oregon has 0% sales tax, while Maryland has a 6% sales tax. Therefore...on a $40k car, that's $2400 difference right there!

So...if you want to share how much you paid. Please only list the price of the car before tax/title/license. Each person can add on the sales tax from their respective state + license + title fees. Don't forget..most dealers have doc. fees which again vary from dealer to dealer. That could lead to a big difference in 'out the door' price as well.

My example: '12 TL Tech SH-AWD Auto (MSRP- $43,770)
Purchase price : $36500 including destination charges
Doc. fees: $399
MD Tax: 6% of purchase price (the doc. fees cannot be taxed)
Title/license/registration: approx. $200
Accessories (mud guards/body side molding): $300

Come on people, get with the program!

Hey Gents,

New to the forum and second Acura TL. Just want to piggy back on this thread and check my recent deal for the purchase of my new 2012 AWD Advance CBP/Umber.

The car was the only Advance in the south for sale with this color combo and it had to be trucked to DFW from San Antonio, 6 hours away.

I paid $43,096 - $1,000 DN PMT assistance= $42,096. The deal included the following accessories:

Window Tint
Splash Guards
Door Moldings
Door Edge Guards
Wheel Locks
All Weather Package, OEM rubber mats and trunk tray

I also traded my 2005 TL Navi with 50K on the clock. The car was in good condition with the body and interior consistent with a 2005 car. Also, the car had been in a fender bender, so it did not have a clean CarFax. After a painful negotiation, they gave me $13,500 for my TL. Other dealers offered me $11,000 to $11,500 MAX.

Your opinions on this deal are appreciated!

How did you manage a price of 32 something. Which state is that. Maybe I need to get it from there. I am in DFW,TX

Brand new with 8 miles. I got a quote from another dealership for $36k OTD. I called around to several dealership using $35.5K to neg.

Traded in my 2011 SHAWD Auto for a 2012 SHAWD Tech Auto. Both cars are WDP/Taupe.

I paid 36,900 for the car before taxes and I got the 1000 loyalty incentive.

I can see that, but that's how I negotiated it on the last day of the month after they closed and the mgr offered that he needed "one more"...

GA (our county) is 7% and we paid $35k on the nose otd so it works out to be just over $32k pre taxes and fees... They backed it out to whatever they needed to make it end at $35k to and I wrote a check. Nice and simple and I got a cool car.
