Preowned '12 TL, need help

Dealer want to sell me used 2012 TL SH-AWD Tech for $29,994 +ttl. The mileage of the car is 37000. Very high for 2012 car. What do you think? Actually I just about to get new '13 TSX SE, about the same price range. But this deals looks good. So I need help

According to KBB,
Retail: $ 33417
CPO: $ 34367

with the mileage you indicate. You can get a lower mileage car, but it will cost a few thousand more.

Overall, I'd say its a good deal, despite the mileage. Just check for any damage and make sure it runs well. The only downside if not CPO is that the warranty will run out in only 13,000 miles, but any real manufacturers defects should have shown themselves by then.

I wouldn't be put off by the mileage- it was likely a highway commuter.

i would look for a lower mileage car...not that its too many miles for an acura, but its a 2012 that has more miles then my 2010....i would be looking for a 2012 with 10k or less miles....

Check the in-service date on the car. The 2012 TL went on sale in March of 2011. Depending on the date it was put in service, the mileage might not be all that unreasonable.

Some other fellow bought a similar car with 49K for 26K+. That car was very clean. I would say if you could get a little more off about 2K and the car is clean with all records then it is a go. ERDOC48 did cover it well but you could easily get a new one for 38K or less so that is another price point. At the price they want at least make sure new tires/brakes and the rear differential serviced. It is so much more car then the TSX.

The car also has 19" diambond cut alloy wheels, painted black. I have to take a look myself about the car condition. What is usually the problem/maintenance for ~40k mileage for TL?

The wheels are worth a grand so that is nice. Look through the problem section and take the car for a drive up to 80 MPH. In general the car is among the best out there.

It's not certified. I just called them, they working on it, but the price will jump to $31,999 ($2000 increase)... wonder should I skip the certification.

DO NOT skip certification. Without it, you're out of warranty sooner. Once it is CPO, IIRC, all factory warranties apply, which are 4yr/50k bumper to bumper, and 6yr/70k powertrain. The CPO will give you another limited warranty for an additional 1yr/12K beyond that. Just remember, it starts from the original in-service date for the vehicle, i.e. when the original owner purchased it.

I see.. so CPO $32,000+ttl, do you think is good enough?

No way would I pay $2000 for another 1 yr and 12K. Essentially you are paying almost full boat for any serious issue when the probability is very small and you still have time to discover issues as has been stated. At 32K your delta to a new one is less plus new have 0.9 financing. I'm not saying the car is perfect and some people do have issues, but damn it's a ACURA so you should expect good things and drive it 250K. Some dealers are jerks so if they won't deal you got to let it go.

Yes, you are right. That's why I considering Acura with that high mileage car. I called the dealer, they said they in process with certification, there is no way to omit it. Lame. At that price, they looking for ~34k otd, that's a lot more than I expected. Should I switch to my old choice, the 13 new TSX SE? hmm...

I missed the part about tacking it onto the original 29K+change. I thought you were trying to save the 2K off that. For a 2012 with 37K on the clock, mid/low 30Ks is too much IMO. Hell, I got my CPO 2012 SH-AWD tech for around 35K, with an in service date of 05/2012, with only 6500 miles. No way I would pay only a couple grand less for a car with 30K more miles!

Shop around. Deals area out there.

Agree, shop around, for example with each of the TL purchases, I found buys that were many thousands less than other dealers. Some really just cater to the ignorant. They don't grow is sales volume but they stay in business.

@pimpin-tl: 27k is too much. I bought a CPO 2012 TL Advance with 10k miles for 31500 in upstate NY which is more expensive than TX.

Fyi you just got a good deal. That is way below bluebook on that car. They are going for around what I said online.

Shop around more you'll love the TL over the Tsx. Also that's not really a lot of miles. You should be able to get a cpo'd Advance sh awd with a little less miles for $32-34k.

I just test drove that TL last night, haven't do any offers yet. It is a great car, love the tech and power. Those powder coated 19" diamond cut alloy wheels are nice.

However I found couple chips on hood, grille, a few little scratch on side mirror. And also the wheel. Couple swirls on paint. And in inside, the leather is kinda wrinkle. I believe the owner were not good in maintaining the car. The dealer said they haven't finish do the detailing.

And they come up with $32k, and around $34k otd... I haven't do any offers yet. I think I should shop around little more.

Don't forget you can buy an AcuraCare warranty from Hyannisport Honda - i bought one for my 2009 TL Tech at 48k miles back in October.

Gave me 4 more years + up to 100k miles for ~1265 with $0 deductible.

I've already had to use it twice - both times for door lock actuators going out.

I'd jump on that - great price for the car. Examine the maintenance items to see what kind of owner the car had previously....is the oil golden or dark brown? has the trans and diff fluid been changed? brake and coolant fluid? what does the air filter look like? how about the cabin filter? are the floor mats tattered or in good shape? these items will tell you a lot about the mindset of the person that owned the car.

I don't see the mileage as any concern at all. As long as the oil was changed at least 3 times, everything else should be fine at 37K and you can service those items yourself (or at a dealer or local shop). The 6speed improves drivability and mileage significantly, so I'd pursue a 2012 over an earlier model (even though I have a 2010, which I love, I think the mileage of my ride sucks).

It sounds like you can take care of all of the cosmetic items and you'll have a great car for a good price. You can search around for months, spend more, waste time and end up saving a couple hundred dollars. Get the car now, enjoy it right away and do most of the work yourself - you'll come out ahead and have a great car to boot.

That fellow would be me. Yes, my SHAWD had 49k. The asking price was almost 29k, but I got it down to 26k+. Found out a lot about the car. Highway driver during non rush hour traffic. New tires and serviced regularly. The car is IMMACULATE, fresh off the showroom floor. I had the car checked out by 2 Acura dealerships and they both confirmed that the car is in excellent condition despite the high mileage and said that it was a great deal. I say do it. So what if the mileage is somewhat high, its a Honda after all.
