Question Power Mirrors (Tilting ?)

My question is : We you put the transmission in reverse the drivers side mirror tilts down. I'm not really sure as to why it does it, but if the passenger mirror were to do the same thing it would help in parallel parking as one would see the curb better.
Can somebody explain this?

It does, slide the mirror selector to R (right). Then that mirror will tilt.

Here's how it works. You know the little switch on the drivers side armrest that allows you to adjust the outside mirrors? It has a left, right and center position. Put it to the left, you adjust the left side mirror, etc. When you put the car in reverse it will tilt down the mirror that the controller is set to. If you want it to tilt down the passenger side mirror, set the switch to the right and so forth. If you don't want either mirror to tilt down set it to the center detent position.

BTW, there's no setting to have both mirrors tilt down.

If you have the mirrow adjustment selector switch on the drivers side mirror, the drivers side mirror will tilt in when reverse. If you flip the switch to the passenger side, then that will be the mirror that tilts down. If you do not want either mirror to tilt, leave the switch in the middle.

You're right that it is more useful on the drivers side but it can be useful on a one way street where parking is allowed on both sides.

Yup put the mirror adjustment selector to whichever side you want to tilt.

I wish there was an option for both mirrors to tilt down. Passenger for parallel parking, driver for other situations where it's just easier if there's a high curb or something to your left.

That's what I would like to see as well. I hate that is one or the other.

I can't imagine anyone using both side mirror to parallel park. Even if you live in NY

+2

Lexus has this option. Acura should too; I don't imagine this would cost but a few more bucks. Makes it easier when one has to back up into a tight space.

Anyone want to venture a mod?

one stupid thing of the tilting side mirror is if you already set ur mirror pointing really close to the downward movement limit before u shift to R.... the mirror won't stop tilting down and will keep knocking itself when you shift to R....

the way i set my side mirror..... i couldn't see the side of my car..... the place i live in....most parking lots are really small....so when i am parking and sometimes wanna see how close am i to the car next to me..... i will lower the mirrors...but that's when i am driving forward......and if i forgot to switch it back up..... before i switch into reverse...... this will happen.....

I guess this is for those without tech package? I find I'm using the side mirrors a lot less with the backup cam.

Nope - for people that need to parallel part a lot too, keeps you from curbing your wheels.

The lines in the backup cam are quite good at showing you where the car will be too. I use this as a guide to prevent curbage.

Wheel curbage...

Car pristine (knock on wood) at 5000 miles EXCEPT...
one dime-size scrape in wheel finish of left rear, thanks to wife attempt to parallel park on left side of one-way street. You can't see it unless you're right up on it, but I know it's there

TandooriChicken <--- ANAL

(but smart enough not to give wife crap... what's done is done; next time need to buy a car so fast she'll be afraid to drive it... thinking ZR-1, yeah right)

Right now 0% APR on a ZR-1 - free money right there.

It's not bad...but having the extra reassurance by looking at the right mirror tilted down is comforting.
