I too was able to get solid 27MPG on my Type-S, the AWD I can get 26-27 for breif times, but realistic HWY seems to be 24.5-25 MAX and even that is 55-65MPH, much more than that it it starts dropping fast.

After my first 500 miles, I score around 20-21 mpg with 50/50 (city/Highway). Not that bad since I tend to stomp on the gas when I'm on the Highway...(yeah I'm the only one who does that around here...).
I use octane 94 gas.

I have around 450 miles on the car and I do 100% city driving with the TL since it is my "severe service" car. I have been getting around 21mpg per MID display. I also use Tufoil oil additive and used it for a long time and improves my mpg's a bit.

Was getting that now prior to my first oil change. Hoping it'll jump up 1-2 MPG now.

Drove to Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ yesterday, around 70 miles each way, and averaged 27.6mpg by the time I got back home. The trip meter already had about 50miles from the day before on it too, so the trip to 6 flags probably averaged a little over 28...which i'll totally take. I'm at 14,000 miles since September

The formula for an accurate MPG calculation;
Total number of miles driven since the last complete fill up (trip meter reading since last fill up) divided by the total number of gallons to completely fill the tank = Miles Per Gallon.
The on board computer provides a rough estimate which may or may not be accurate.

you are right about getting a more accurate number, but I did that and im only off by .2 mpg. there will always be room for deviations, but .2 is not too bad.

Indeed, this is a lot of the reason I totally ignore gas mileage on a car purchase. I only drive 4 to 5k miles a year. The Z I traded had such low miles it didn't even last a week on the lot before it sold.

I am averaging about 16.5 mpg all city, another thing I noticed however I could be tripping is when you fill up th trip computer automatically resets if you are in that menu when you fill up. Is it jut me or does anyone else notice this?

The Trip A can be set to automatically reset on fill up. That was one of the personalization options my salesman went over when I bought mine. I thought that was a great feature. I just have to remember to record the reading before it resets.

I have 500 miles on my FWD. First tank I averaged 24.6 (60% highway, 40% city). Current tank is a little less than half way through and I'm averaging 28.5 (70% highway, 30% city). To me, these numbers are astonishing. Sticker says 18/26. How am I getting 28.5? I forgot to save the gas receipt last time to see how many gallons I put in to the second tank. I didn't do the math myself, these are the computer's calculations. In the future I will do the calculations and re-post. I am still babying the car for the break in period so I expect these numbers to go down once I can put my foot into it a little.

got a FWD loaner for 2 days. put bout 300 miles on it and averaged 26.7MPG. That was 85% in town and 15% highway. I got on it several times also. I have an 08tsx and that V6 was too fun to not to get on it!!! but overall i got decent mileage

I feel strongly both ways
Haven't reset odometer B since I picked the car up. So far with ~4300 miles I've averaged 20.5 mpg. And that's living in NYC with about 50% (real) city driving, about 30% suburban driving (what most people on here probably mean when they say "city") and about 20% highway.
Not too shabby. My ES350 only gave me about 21mpg.

As reported in my road test post, we repeatedly got over 30 mpg on the interstate at 80+ mph. Unfortunately, the only pic I took was this poor cell phone shot with about 232 miles on the tank. Got the better mileage later in our trip.
This is a FWD '09 TL. Don't know why you guys are getting such low mpg!

On a related topic, do people find the MID mpg overestimating or underestimating. The 2 times I've compared it to manual calculation it underestimated by 0.5mpg once and overestimated by 0.2mpg once. My theory is that if the first gas station pump stopped short of full (hence calculating a mpg higher than MID's) that leads to the next fill-up gas volume to be more than expected (and hence calculating a lower mpg than the MID's).
I guess what I'm getting at is that the MID calculation is probably pretty accurate.

Texas may be flatter than other states , and I think others are talking more mixed driving. Still it is impressive that 80+mph with presumably AC on given your temp of 101F the TL FWD can get 30mpg. Did you run your tire pressure higher than 32psi cold?

I agree on the MID calcs. As long as the odometer is accurate, it's probably as good a measurement as you're going to get. And we've checked the TL against an aftermarket Garmin GPS, which showed the speedo was absolutely spot on at all speeds tested. Scary accurate, in fact.

I just did a 160 mile trip ... driven very easy on highways with posted speeds from 45-65 ... and got 28.8 MPG! I was very pleased with this since there were some stoplights. 2009 TL SH-AWD

After 2200 miles, I am at 22.6 mpg overall with 75% freeway. I get on it a bit now and again, but mostly at 80 mph on freeway. City driving only, it can drop to 16 mpg pretty fast. Flat freeway driving only and I've had it just under 30. Took a 300 mile drive San Diego to El Centro and back -- over the mountains -- and averaged 26.5 mpg. Hills do affect it. With all flat driving under 75 mph, I'd say it would easily hit 30 mpg.

Just picked up my TL last week and loving it. I glanced at this thread and noticed virtually nobody has indicated whether they are using air conditioner most of the time, as I am. It seems to me that is a significant factor missing from the discussion. I will post my MPG shortly. Thanks.

After 1100 miles in my very sweet SH-AWD Tech, I'm averaging 20.6 MPG (60% city/40% highway). I'm a little disappointed w/ the mpg (my 2007 Type-S did a little over 2 mpg better), but I love this car sooooooo much more!

OK, first time on the highway with my new TL AWD non-Tech. Straight shot from northern NJ to Boston with one bathroom break, about 28.3 MPG and the highest at 28.7 at one point.
No A/C, no cruise, 1/2 tank of whatever the dealer put in with the rest Sunoco Premium. Little did I know that I should have said "Ultra" to the attendant, which is 93 Octane. It wasn't until the pump was running that I realized, uh oh, but their Premium is 91 and that's what the manual said.
I did drive it like Grandma - 65-70 MPH with a few bursts of 75+ for passing.
Car had 410 miles when I started the trip so if it gets that good of a mileage now, I can't imagine when she's all broken in!

I was able to get 32.2 mpg in my 2009 FWD TL-Tech driving 60-65mph on a 2.5 hour trip from Baltimore to DE beaches. At that point, I had about 500 miles on the car. I don't think I ever did this well in my 02 TL which averaged around 28-29 mpg. I then went from Baltimore to Deep Creek Lake in the Western Maryland Mountains (a 3 hour trip) averaging 70 mph and got 28.6mpg - still not too bad. I could have probably done a little better if I had not used cruise control since the cruise tends to gun it when it's going up the mountain. I was using A/C on both of these trips.

Just filled up today. I calculated mpg by both methods (trip computer and manual (miles driven divided by gallons added at the pump)). I found the the trip computer overestimated by .29% ......not bad at all...........23.9 mpg 80 hwy/ 20 city
