"Poor mans" TL mod page!

So I actually saw this on the G37 forum when I was researching cars and thought it was a cool little idea...

It was basically an epic thread that just continued to grow as people would add their own touch to things. The basic premise is for this to be a one stop thread for cheap mods. $50 and under mods only. Basically I can be cheap and I know others can too.

I can hear it now. "You paid too much for your car to do cheap mods". The goal here is for inexpensive, cost wise, not cheap looking. I haven't done these mods, but here's what I'm getting at

COST - essentially free

Debadge your trunk. More than likely you'll have all the stuff you need lying around your house. First heat up the emblems by parking your car in the sun or using a hair dryer. Use dental floss to get behind and "cut" off the emblems. Now a little goo gone (even iso alcohol will work), now a quick compounding and wax and you're done.

COST - <$10?

DIY Mirror Mount for my V1 Radar with DIY "stealthcord/invisicord"
-Nice clean looking install for CHEAP!
https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-2009-2014-123/diy-mirror-radar-detector-mount-stealth-cord-856090/

If that doesn't work I will look into this mount... $35 with free shipping for prime members...

Unfortunately, radar detectors are very very very illegal around here...
Looking forward for other mods though since I am a poor man as well

1. Black suction cup mounted ezpass (toll scan devices) holders for your windshield.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EZ-Pass-Toll-Tag-Holder-Black-E-Z-Mount-FREE-SHIP-OUT-/300768273099?pt=Apparel_Merchandise&hash=item46072fa2cb&vxp=mtr
2. Swapping out to LED bulbs for your license plate, door/puddle courtesy lights, etc. (With exception of trunk bulb cuz people appear to be causing electrical issues with those).

3. Stick air freshners in the little slots next to your leg (both driver's side and passenger side).

4. Acura tire valve caps lol

5. Remove fuse for daytime running lights.

I thought of some more...

6. Acura license plate frames.

7. License plate screw caps!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/License-Plate-Security-Screw-Cap-Covers-WITH-SCREWS-Flat-Black-/121145031558?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c34ce7b86&vxp=mtr
8. This breaks the budget but for the guys with '09-'11 TLs... the OEM midnight chrome grille was an awesome mod, well worth the money. I got it for FREE at amazon by cashing in my AMEX points.

LED Fog lights
H11 LED bulbs can be had as cheap as $8 per pair.
Worthless as a light source but looks good aesthetics wise.

In comparison with other cars... probably a bit of a pain as you need to lift the car and take off the shield.

Follow the directions on this link to get to the fog light bulbs.

Don't forget the HP adding air box drill out...

LOL, the days of "cheap" mods are almost over, sucks for old guys like me that have done this stuff for years.

I did the footwell lights, what stupid engineer would put black covers over a LED?

I may get bored soon and replace all the lights with LED's and a few other simple things but everything else just seems to cost money.

Nowadays, a detector is not as helpful as it had been 5-10 years ago, with the advent of Laser guns and Instant-on radar guns.

Even with a detector, if you're speeding on a wide open road with nothing between you and the officer, then you are just as dead as those without a detector.

Mostly true, however my 9500ix has paid for itself in detecting photo-radar locations. Not to mention the warning about speed-on-green and red light cameras (though the latter are never a problem for me, as I don't try and run any light). So yes...they won't keep your record completely clean, but they might save you a few bucks.

A free app for your phone called Waze will give you a heads up on most of that stuff. I use it exclusively, although sometimes I forget to have the display on and get caught by Johnny Law. Just happened last week.

If legal in your state, a radar detector is a great 'savings'. You can't depend on Waze for updated Law Enforcement information and my detector has a 5-10 mile range so I have plenty of warning in any urban location and even in remote locations too.

Remember the detector works on the theory that there will be somebody ahead of you that gets pasted by the radar and not you. That's why having the extended range is crucial in boosting your odds of evading a speeding ticket. Laser is such short range, that you need to be paying attention or simply not speeding in those areas. Most cops are lazy and actively aiming a laser is too much work for them compared to kicking back with a radar blaring. The majority of my radar warnings are from CHP or Carlsbad's finest that have the radar constantly on.

Stay away from those as they tend to seize in cold weather. So you can kiss your expensive TPMS valves goodbye. Trying to take these covers off after they seize, you'll break the valves. I had to learn the hard way...

Mine seized... but luckily for me, they were dealer installed.
Replaced back to plastic and fixed under warranty.

Yup, I bought a pair of fittings. It obviously came unpainted but I had touchup paint I bought from last year and used that instead. Beats spending 30 bucks from bumperplugs.com! Although I wouldn't mind spending $30 on them either but figured it's less than a dollar so it wouldn't hurt. I think it came out good.
