can anyone here explain to me IN PLAIN ENGLISH where I would install a performance chip? The manual states I should be looking for an "IAT" sensor other wise names as a "MAT Sensor. Problem here is my car may have both. Any suggestions are kindly appreciated and yes im aware that chips are considered a "placebo" but I still want to try myself. Oh I have a 2013 TL by the way
The chip is probably a wire with a plastic box around it. Either way, you can hook it up to either and it won't do a thing.
The IAT sensor measures incoming air temp. By making the car think it's colder, it may spray more fuel (as hot air is less dense than cold air). However the rest of the sensors (exhaust 02 sensors, MAP/MAF, etc will pick up the extra airflow and fix the fuel mixture instantly.
We all need to try things sometimes, even when others tell us not to. That’s what makes life fun. To answer your question, here is a picture of the IAT location for your 2013 TL. Most of these under $100 chips operate the same way as was described by others in this thread. Just locate the IAT sensor and install this chip harness there. Installation should take you about 10 minutes and it can be removed just as quickly. Will it give you the extra power and performance you are looking for? Yes, but not the wild claims you will read about in their advertising. From my experience your MPG will go down from 26 to 22 and your horsepower should go up from 280 to perhaps 285 to 290. Often these chips will cause other problems which is why they are not commonly used. Here is an install guide for installing a PCD chip. Most chips install in this same fashion.
