Patron Highcroft Racing Stars And Cars Kick Off 2009 With Busy Schedule

American Le Mans Series News

The stars and the cars of Patrón Highcroft Racing have kicked off the new year with a busy schedule of events and appearances.

Scott Sharp, David Brabham, team owner Duncan Dayton and last year's Patrón Highcroft Racing's Acura ARX-01b LMP2 chassis will all make appearances this week - both in the US in California as well as Birmingham, England.

The team will be presented at the All-American Auto Racing Team banquet at the Ontario Hilton, CA; Autosport International - The Racing Car Show at Birmingham's National Exhibition Center (UK) and Macworld Expo at San Francisco's Moscone Center.

Sharp and Dayton will represent the team at the annual All-American Team banquet presented by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) this Saturday, January 10.

Following their spectacular 2008 American Le Mans Series season, Sharp and team-mate David Brabham gained All-American Auto Racing Team First Team honours.

Voted by the country's leading motorsport journalists and broadcasters, the All-America Auto Racing Team features drivers from open wheel, stock car, road racing, drag racing, short track, touring series and "at large".

Sharp previously scored First Team selection in 1991 and 1994 and will collect the award on behalf of himself and his teammate at banquet.

"It is certainly a great privilege for David and myself to be selected on the All-American team by AARWBA and I am really looking forward to attending the banquet with Duncan this weekend," Sharp said.

"We had a fantastic year last year with some fantastic race finishes. For us to receive this award despite just missing out on the P2 championship is certainly a great honor."

While Brabham will be absent from the award banquet, the UK-based Australian driver has a busy schedule this week across the Atlantic at the annual Autosport International Show in England.

The Patrón Highcroft Racing star will make a number of appearances for on-stage interviews at the event on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, he won't just be talking to the fans.

Brabham will conduct a new free Karting Workshop for young stars of the future at the Karting Show that is staged in conjunction with the Birmingham event on Saturday, January 10. The ex-Formula 1 driver and the only man to take pole and win in all four classes of the American Le Mans Series will pass on his year's of experience.

"I'm looking forward to hosting the first Karting Workshop at the Karting Show and to sharing some of my winning ethos with budding potential motorsport champions," said Brabham.

"I hope that my Karting Show session will help a small group of drivers to understand themselves more, to help them move on to achieve whatever they want to achieve."

But when it comes to karting, it won't be all talk and no action for Brabham who will join a number of other leading stars including Tom Kristensen, Emanuele Pirro, Frank Beila, Guy Smith, Johnny Mowlem, Oliver Gavin and Darren Turner in the BP Ultimate Celebrity Karting Challenge at Autosport International.

The charity karting event is organised by Brabham and aims to raise more than £50,000 (US$75,000 approx) for charities including Richard Burns Foundation, The Christie Cancer Hospital Manchester, and Emmaus Hampshire.

Members of the public can get the chance to race against the international stars by buying purchasing a seat in the karting event that is staged on Friday, January 9.

Last year's Patrón Highcroft Racing Acura ARX-01b race winning chassis can be seen at this week's Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

The technology features of the Acura TL and TSX models will be featured at the show alongside the Acura ARX-01b. Expo attendees will be able to visit the Acura Lounge where they will be able to check their email and re-charge their electronic devices.
