Painting Grill and Trunk Piece

For those who got their grills painted do you think they did a good job? From the pics I saw here they look awesome. But I was talking to a guy at a local body/paint shop and he stated that the grill could be painted but the job wouldn't last. What I'm asking is what is the process for painting this grill? He stated that the grill would have to be sanded prior to painting. Did any of you get it sanded? I was at acura this weekend and I saw a CBP TL with a painted grill but you could see it starting to peel. I asked the manager and he said it was painted just a few weeks ago:-(. So i'm wondering what's the best. Any would be appreciated.

I do autobody on the side and have zero issues with peeling.

YOU have GOT to sand whatever it is your working on. I follow it up with 2k primer, then basecoat/clear.

There should be here no peeling.

On a side note, those grilles are chrome/aluminium plated which is why you have peeling (if not prepped correctly).

I would really scuff that chrome up. i am talking 80 grit, then 2k primer. You would be surprised that 80 grit sandpaper will put what appears to only be 220 sanding scratches into the chrome plating.

Thanks. Nice video. I will just bring my grill over to you and let you paint it . Yeah that's why the shop said he said they will have to sand every inch of the grill and then paint. The TL I saw grill couldn't have been sanded down.

You can PM me, or if you want email me at exus28@aol.com or exus28 is my AIM

the site blocks out links here, so I can't post my work. I am not a body shop so I am not under time constraints. I do one job per every two weeks and do a thorough job with each one.

I do work for members all over the states, I would be happy to share links with you.

...And whats wrong every sanding every inch of the grille? How else do you do it?
