Angry Nice New Dent/Ding in My Car

Some assh*le was nice enough to slam their door drivers door and not only scratched but dented my car. My body shop guys says that he will have to paint both doors and my front fender so everything matches. Is this correct?

yea, gotta paint just about the whole side to blend it out. The color will be different if he just paints that door.

Man I feel for you, buddy. I'd hate that, and if it happened to me I'd probably be storming around the parking lot where it happened looking for the culprit (knowing inside they're already miles away). Some people just don't respect others' property and it's a shame.

People are frickin' idiots. In the 14 years of owning my Corvette I managed to get dinged only once. It was a time where I was in a hurry and didn't have time to search for an end space at the mall. When I came out there was some huge pickup parked next to me along with a paint chip on the door of my car.

In your case the damage almost looks intentional. Amazing that slugs like that are walking around.

I'm thinking it may have been intentional since I was parked on an end and made sure there was plenty of room for the car next to me to open the door. People suck.

That is why I also park as far away from everyone as I can. But there have been times when I come back to the car and some jerk decided to park right next to me even though there were plently of other spaces..People are such a-holes,

Hopefully you get it fixed to your liking..

Got three estimates and two of the body shops say they can paint only the door since it's in the middle. Was told I need about 18" on either side of the dent / scratch for proper blending. Don't know which way to go. I want the paint to match, but really don't want to have the entire side of my car painted. Thoughts?

JT4, I do the SAME exact thing by trying to park far away. It almost NEVER fails that someone will come and park right next to me!!

Airclnr, I'm really sorry to hear about your car. I would be sooo freakin' done if that happened to me.

I hope you get your car restored back to it's original self soon.

Some kids for no reason what so ever decided it would be a good idea to stomp the shit out of my rear quarter panel. Scratches and dents. It was too expensive to fix and not worth paying the deductable.

I was actually parked on an end with about 4' clearance between the cars. Now State Farm is telling me that it will be a collision deductible rather than comprehensive. That means $500.00 rather than $250.00 out of my own pocket.... How can it be a collision if i wasn't even in the car?!?

Getting dinged sucks. People today have no respoect for others property.

As for the repairs I have had partial doors painted before where they have matched perfectly and you couldn't even tell the difference. I guess it depends on the body shop and may be how old the paint is.

Since the car is only a 2009 and has been meticulously waxed, I'm hoping it will match perfectly.

comprehensive only applies to random acts of nature i believe.

What Comprehensive Covers
•Fire
•Theft
•Riot
•Hail, water, or flooding
•Vandalism
•Wind
•Damage resulting from an animal
•Glass Breakage
•Missiles or falling objects (the term missiles used here does not refer to the military context - instead refers to any flying or propelled object)

so collision is anything that has to do with another vehicle hitting your vehicle.

dont' worry about your rates going up. they won't. somebody dinged you. not your fault. so your insurance SHOULD NOT hold it against you even if filed on your collision. depends on the insurnace and your driving record of course. it sucks you will have to pay more b/c of some other idiot's mistake.

Hey trigirl what you age saying might be wrong, I was parked and someone scratched my bumper badly and I dint have to pay my deductible and I thought everything was ok. A few months ago someone turned right when they did not have the right of way. We went into arbritation and I won the case and my insurance dropped me regardless. Now I'm shopping for insurance and the bumper issue is showing up and I'm paying more because of this so called colision.

^^it depends on your insurance company. there are a lot of factors that go into it. if you are a younger driver and in a high risk category and have a number of claims on your plan sure they can work against you.

i've been with my insurance company for over 10 yrs...good driving record etc...i recently had two claims (one collision, one comprehensive both were essentially related to each other). my collision claim i paid my deductible on only to be repaid to me 2 months later (it was a subrogated claim). i didn't get penalized for those claims by having higher rates.

in your case, you didnt' mention whether your bumper was a hit and run OR whether you filed a claim in the 2nd situation to the other party's insurance (based on what you were saying it was the other person's fault). we also don't know your age, or your driving record so certainly there is a "depends" clause to my explanation. if you read my post it says "the insurance 'SHOULD NOT' hold it against you."

it seems younger drivers get penalized more harshly for claims. the other aspect is also the type of vehicle you drive. midsize sports sedan vs. say a minivan or a compact like a civic. so based on my experience, my insurance has NOT gone up due to claims (i've only had a few-none were my fault).

^^ I'm 36, never had a speeding ticket, those to accidents are no faults. The bumper issue was a hit and run cause I was not there, i have called like 5 different insurance company's and they both show up. I think also where you live goes against you, I live in new York so insurance company's are harder on people that live in citys with allot of accidents. Crazy how those accidents are no faults and my primium is going up. I got hit and I'm still paying for it, sucks but guess that's just how the ball bounces.

You should call your insurance and say that its a hit and run and that this should be under the uninsured motorist coverage. This happened to me twice and if you dont tell them this, they try to make it a collision coverage because it counts against you and also that the deductible is higher. That's kind of shady that they didnt tell you this!

big city area driving...will definitely hurt you. the risks are WAY higher than in suburbia. those two claims will be on your plan for a while since they were close together and recent, they are haunting you. get on a new plan, stick with it for 6 mos then a yr and more than likely the rates will go down. for now...all those insurnaces see is HIGH RISK.

time to move, get married (if you aren't already) and move to the burbs.

Was told by State Farm that only bodily injury is comes under the under/uninsured driver coverage. They did say that my rates will not go up because of this incident. So my quandary is, do I have the whole side repainted or just have the door painted. Want to make sure the paint matches perfectly. I've heard both ways. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

The adjuster thought that it looked more like vandalism rather than a door ding so I just saved $250.00. They want to try to paint the door and blend it that way first. They said they would repaint the whole side if necessary. I really can't complain now, just have to wait for a few days.

Hopefully they can just do the door. There is no substitute for the factory paint job so it's best to limit things. Good luck!

One tip I have for you if you ever need to park in an airport parking lot is to use RoadWrap (which is normally used on your hood for bugs). Run a strip along both sides of the car for some extra ding/scratch protection. I keep a roll in my trunk when stuck parking in a iffy spot for extended periods of time.

I picked my car up yesterday and it looks perfect. The body shop only had to paint the door and they matched the paint perfectly. Now I'm afraid to park it anywhere. Time to hire a bodyguard to watch my car whenever I park it.

I know this is vengeful but I vowed years ago that if someone dinged my car and I could positively verify the culprit, that in retaliation I would key their car. Only had to key one car in 20 years. :-)

bubble wrap.

it's about strategically parking to minimze your chances of some dumb bunny from dinging your car. welcome to the club. i've been hit and run before in a parking lot....ever since then...i've been even more sensitive as to where i park (to the point of OCD/anal) and also limiting the number of people who handle my car as well (me, the dealer-reluctantly). glad everything worked out.
